Question Regular workouts, fewer calories - 0 weight loss - Help!

Hi! I'm a 50 year old woman (OMG!) with pretty severe osteoarthritis in both knees. I've been overweight pretty much all my life, but when my knees began to get really bad, I decided to get serious about getting fit. For the past two months, I've been cutting calories and working out in water (organized classes three times a week) and another hour after each class. After the first month, I'd lost 8 pounds, but since then - nada. I'm trying to be very careful about my diet and never miss a class.

Could there be another reason I'm not losing? I honestly don't know what else to do at this point. Thanks for any advice you can give!

Are you losing inches? Do you feel more fit?
I ask that because for its size, fat weighs less than muscle. Ten lbs of fat could take up the same amount of space as 20 lbs of muscle (for example, it's not a 2 to 1 ratio.) You could also be hitting a plateau. Do you ever change up your workouts, or do you go at the same difficulty the whole time? You can't let your body get used to your workouts.
For your after-class (I assume swimming) try swimming very hard for 1 minute and swimming slowly for 4, or whatever you're comfortable with trying. Good luck!

You may need to lower you calories a bit further.

Your metabolism slows down as you get older, and since you've been overweight for so long, your body wants to stay that way. Just keep doing what you've been doing, tweaking your food at workout to burn more and eat less and you will start to see some weight loss again. Just keep it up!

Default Do you track your food intake

Before you jump to conclusions, perhaps you should write down what you eat for 5 days. You are looking for what you are eating, including time of day and how you felt when you ate. You may find that you are not eating enough or that you are waiting too long between meals to eat.

When you eat, you should make sure each of your meals has a lean protein and a carb component. You should also look to reduce the amount of processed foods that are in your diet. I hope this helps.

I'd suggest providing us with more information.

What are your stats, as in; age, height, weight?

Are you tracking calories and if so how?

What is your typical food selection?

How long have you been trying to lose weight without a break?

    Liquid diet?

It's no wonder hardly anyone loses weight and keeps it off.

    Green tea is not magic.

Try low-carb diet, make more research about this if you hear alot of negative side, dont listen of what they say. Exercise doesn't help you lose weight, besides if your just starting dont do exercise yet coz, exercise makes you hungry, only curv your appetite. You can lose weight by right diet.

A low carb approach isn't for everyone and if you're not in a calorie deficit, eating low carb isn't going to do anything in terms of fat loss. Focusing on carbs before calories is putting the carb far ahead of the horse.

And exercise doesn't universally stimulate hunger.

In some cases it does the exact opposite.

Try super setting heavy squats and shoulder presses. See how long it is before you want food again.
