    Hello

Is it true that, to lose a significant amount of weight, one should use diet pills along with smart meals and exercising? Or is it something that is case by case and doesnt apply to everyone?

    Diet pills are never needed.

I'd suggest simply applying the fundamentals of healthy eating consistently without risking your health with stupid pills.

    The fundamentals work. Always.

And pills, even ones that might have a slight impact, account for a very small percentage of actual weight lost.

    Default diet pills

when I turned thirty, for the next five years i gained an amazeing amount of poundage. I was going back to college trying to better myself. by the time I noticed what was happening I was 295lbs. I then started a concentrated effort to lose weight. I ran five miles every morning I started a strict diet. I tried weight watchers. I tried slimfast. I tried ultra ninety. and then I tried every. stinkin weight loss gimmick I saw adds on tv I tried it. pop ups on the computer I tried it. I was about to give up altogether when one day I was talking to a friend in the hallway at school when a girl walked up and said that she had overheard my conversation and recommended that I go talk to the people at the DR.'s diet program. she gave me the number and I called it. I went there and had bloodwork done and my blood pressure taken and weight measured. I then was put on phentramine and lost 58lbs in the first three months I amnow at the weight I want to be and love it. People keep telling me that this pill is bad and that it can kill me but I have had my regular family Dr. monitoring my progress and he said that he can find no indicators that I should stop takeing this pill. so ...some people can lose weight the normal way and some of us need help.

Nobody needs help. Unless you consider those without willpower and drive to be in need of help.

    Default rephrase

    Let me rephrase my responce.
thyermodynamics is the study of the dynamics of air moveing in and around an object. it has nothing whatsoever to do with weight loss or gain. what I stated in my post was an opinion of what worked and what did'nt work for me, nothing more. To say that no one needs help in loseing weight is an opinion and should be taken as such.
furthermore weight loss is different depending on different factors, age, amount of activity, thyroid function and so on, notice that I did say that I was monitored closely by my physician.
If anyone wants to lose weight I would recommend seeing your Dr. first and asking to be referred to a dietition.

One of the laws of thermodynamics is that energy cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed. Calories are a unit of energy measurement, we tend to think of them as food but they are energy or substantance waiting to be utilized for energy. If don't use as much as you take in your body stores it for the future. If you use more than you take in, your body utilizes some of what is stored. It's that simple and that complex. High quality material will do more than simply supply energy, poor quality material (excess, processed sugars and highly refined grains) will create problems along with supplying energy.

As quoted from Wikipedia, emphases added by me:
The laws of thermodynamics, in principle, describe the specifics for the transport of heat and work in thermodynamic processes. Since their inception, however, these laws have become some of the most important in all of physicsand other types of science associated with thermodynamics.
So, A, thermodynamics is the study of heat. And B, the laws of thermodynamics have also become the laws of physics over time, the first law of which is that:
the total amount of energy in an isolated system remains constant. A consequence of this law is that energy cannot be created nor destroyed. The only thing that can happen with energy in an isolated system is that it can change form, for instance kinetic energy can become thermal energy.
What you were thinking of is:
Aerodynamics is a branch of dynamics concerned with studying the motion of air, particularly when it interacts with a moving object.
    Easy to confuse, right?

So the moral of this story is that we need to be kind to our fellow posters. Laughing at their responses or responding smugly often ends up with you being proven wrong, and that means you owe somebody an apology. Sahmail, you owe WildChild (who is a respected member and moderator of this board who was only trying to share her ideas on this subject) an apology. And I think we owe Stoutman further discussion on the issue, not just shooting down his words as "just an opinion, see a doctor," which is quite rude. We don't allow rudeness on this board.
    So, in that interest:
Stoutman, you say nobody needs help to loose weight. I feel like that statement needs more elaboration. What about those who do have thyroid problems? Does that sentence become "Nobody needs help unless ..." or "Nobody needs help to lose the amount of weight their body will allow them?" I think this is quite interesting as I have known a few people with hypothyroidism who, with the dedicated use of good diet and exercise, were able to overcome their symptoms and actually be criticized for being too skinny! I also know a woman who takes phentermine who is already a healthy weight ... she just doesn't have the time or extra effort in her busy life to start a bonafide exercise program.
I believe it takes all kinds of efforts, just like it takes all kinds of people. While I don't believe that gimmicky diet pills are good for anybody or will do anyone much good in the long-term, what Sahmail has described sounds rather healthy as well as helpful. I imagine she'll see herself over the years what the effect of her particular path will be.
Moral of the story: we can all express our feelings and opinions (even if they are professional opinions) without shooting one another down or being rude.
