Tragic. But fortunately for you and makenzie the medical field is a lot more aware of munchausen by proxy than they ever were before.

As the first dr noticed - more will as well - she may try taking her to various er's and doctors as repeated visits are certain to raise eyebrows as they did with the doc that dropped her.

Perhaps you guys can look into whether or not the girl has been seen by other local hospitals and clinics etc in the surrounding areas as well.

Start collecting documents of all her appts what they were for , dates, drs findings and treatments given.

Keep records of dates she cancels visits, her reasons etc.

Visit the school she attends - speak to teachers and the nurse get info on how she behaves school if she's ever had illness there, how many days missed etc.

Contact other friends and family and get their statements on how the child behaves without the mom- if she ever gets sick or not etc.

Get a lawyer, a child advocate fighting on behalf of the safety of this child.

i agree with HD, it will be a long process but you need a paper trail and basically proof. sadly meanwhile that poor little girl suffers, its a sick and sorry situation, good luck with everything.

Anyone wonder why health insurance is so expensive?

    Look no further.

This woman needs to be stopped. Not only is she endangering that child, she is running up tens of thousands of dollars in unnecessary medical expenses.

well I have to question this when I see salaries of doctor friends and hear of them being chewed out sometimes by administrators who complain that they're not scheduling enough operations and that "an empty theater is lost profit." As with any issues, there are so many facets to consider.

Rach said shes on the medical card which I assume means medicaid. Maybe if she was paying out of her own pockets she'd not go as much. The scary part for me is how she started with faking illness to get your husbands attention and when that didn't work, the kid started getting "sick".

She sounds dillusional and dangerous, her being under a microscope -- knowing that you guys think she's making stuff up -- I worry she might try to actually CAUSE an illness so that she doesn't look like she's been lying. Scary stuff.

Don't give up with child protective services. Unfortunately they are SWAMPED... cases get swept, don't let mackenzie get swept. Take her to court for her violating custody agreement, present the evidence you've gathered that you feel the child may be in harms way. A child advocate can help you gather it, subpeona medical records etc.

Whatever you do, get that paper trail started. Make sure your husband contacts your childs doctor and lets them know his concerns so that they will rely more on facts than just the mothers word... like admitting the child for observation for seisures vs just taking moms word for it and putting her on meds.

    update:

we have gotten ahold of more medical records. his ex has went from saying that her ex husband, my husband, is 'incarcerated' and she doesn't get help from him. saying that she herself now has CHF and epilepsy from a car accident (lol), and was upset the drs have now taken mackenzie off her epilepsy medication because ta-da! she does not have epilepsy! wouldn't you think a mother would be happy about that? since then also, she has tried to call the dr to get meds saying kenzie is 'bipolar' then when that need wasn't satisfied said she had a behavior problem and they put her on ritalin! we called the dr and told them the story from the beginning and he advised us not to give her the ritalin.

to take her back to court any attorney wants a $3200 retainer fee which we cannot afford right now. i found out i was pregnant a few months back, after we had been trying for 7 long months if we could go through childrens services and they did something it wouldn't be out of our pocket! i just don't understand this? we now have another dr backing us up saying what she is doing is wrong! wouldn't you think this would be easier to get custody of her?

oh and last week she told someone that kenzie has had a hard life because she was raped when she was younger. which is NOT true! what other lies is she going to put in this poor girls head? HELP!!!

Are you sure she's not taking these meds herself? The fact she specifically said bipolar instead of depressed and is also asking for meds herself is what made me lean towards that. Seizure meds can be used for other things too. I take one for insomnia but it's extremely mild and wouldn't be good for anything except it's purpose and some help sleeping. If that's all the kid got put on then the odds of it doing her any harm are very low so I can see why doctors would prescribe it without any further testing. I do know people use some of the other seizure meds to get high or a few anxiety sufferers will try to get them illegally for treating their anxiety if they can't get a script. The meds she's asking for are ones that are over prescribed, easy to get, and frequently abused. I'm also not sure if any of those would show up on a standard test. My seizure med and a couple others I have don't. She hasn't asked for the stuff that is well known to show up on tests. She could also be selling them. There are several times I've been in chatrooms and told someone a med I had a prescription that wasn't working only to have them ask in private if I'd sell it to them. Although asking for meds that don't show up on tests seems like it would take a person smart enough to not hit a buzzer while at the doctor waiting for a seizure to happen.

Have you asked your stepdaughter if she's actually taken these meds?

Ok...sooo I was going through all the back and forth on this thread and am wondering..have you ever asked the judge for Joint custody and Equal Parenting time? As long as you and your husband have sufficient insurance and reliable income it should be granted. Thats the first step. Equal Parenting time is when you have the child for 6months and the mother has the child for 6months. Once that is granted you can prove that the child has no medical need for such medications and establish a new relationship with a credible doctor. I would also file suit against the previous physicians because any doctor that would willing place a child on medications with such harsh side effects is more than neglectful. Do you and the child mother live in the same state? Also do you have ample room for the child to stay. As long as your insurance can provide a home health aide (even part time) Honestly you should push for the child to be on your health insurance because you will have more say over what is done. My last question is does your husband pay childsupport? I'm pretty much a pro at this (check out my previous post) I am a single mother and go through a lot with my daughters father!
