    Exclamation Nobel peace prize

Ok, I'm not usually political and I thought Mr. Obama ran a pretty good campaign but can someone please tell me how the Nobel committee could give this man the peace prize when he's only been in office for 8 months and really has done nothing of substance to promote peace?? I definitely preferred him over the other candidates (because I lean more toward social programs and less toward militarism).

He even [refused] to meet with another Nobel laureate, H.H. the Dalai Lama on his recent visit to Washington presumably because of being afraid of China and what they'd say in November when they met.

One of the candidates this year was a Suraya Parlika, women's right activist in Afghanistan, and a few others like Morgan Changari (though I doubt he's really that into peace) and others.

Does this whole thing just seem wrong to anyone but me?? BTW this post has nothing to do with Democrat vs Republican so if we could stay away from that line it would be nice.

Yea, I'm not sure what he's done that makes him worthy of this title. I think he was nominated just days after he took office.

I woke up to this news on my alarm clock this morning. So yeah I woke up really irritated. I think is idiotic honestly. I didn't really like him when he ran. Campains are bogus lies they tell to try to win so I dont get my hopes up in thier promises. I am sure tho that he's done nothing to earn this. Yet another thing to make him famous.

am I the only one who thinks he's in office to be famous, not to make a difference. When did presidents start visiting every single talk show on TV? I'm sorry if running the US is a full time job.

Well then we'll skip over his predecessor's vacation schedule...

I think this was an act of encouragement and hope. The President of the US has far reaching influence and the US had sunk to an all time low in the eyes of the international community.

Not meeting with the Dahli Lama at this time is a matter if putting international balance over personal preferences. If the US is going to act in partnership in the world and not as the big dog, then choices have to be made and timing has to be considered. The Dahli Lama understands this. Sometimes when dealing with an unreasonable, recaltircant entity and little flattery and coxing will achieve your aims better than digging in your heels.

I actually kinda think it was a good way for people to get a look at him in a more...normal setting...

seeing him in a more normal life would be seeing him interact with his wife, daughter and dog, not going on talk shows. How many celebs really act like themselves when they are there souly for the perpose of being on TV.

But really, what has he done to deserve a noble peace prize? Giving it to him, takes away from people who have worked really hard to make a change. Obama has impressed me anymore than Bush did. Ok well Bush was waaaaaaaaaaay worse but still. He needs to earn things like this, not just have it handed to him just because it looks good.

    Unhappy

I think there were probably many more people deserving of this than Obama. The interesting thing is that the majority of those people who work to make such positive changes in the world don't do it for fame, power, popularity, notoriety, etc. They're the people you never hear about, especially the teachers, or those who work in shelters, help provide sanitation and clean food for people living in slums.

Anyway, I still find it ironic that he refused to meet with HH. A country (and leaders) shouldn't tout itself as leading the cause of human rights, while at the same time in bed with a country that's one of the worlds largest abusers of human rights (all for a cheap DVD or LCD tv???).

I doubt seriously if Mr. Alfred Nobel would really have agreed that this was the best nominee (especially since as OTYA was talking about, all nominations had to be in by Feb. 2 which meant he was in office for only 13 days before the deadline).

Did Bill Clinton get a Nobel Prize?? I know Harry Truman did.I'm not much into politics because people take it really personal so I don't like to comment about Obama. It feels too early to say anyways. I think the media tends to really hype things up.
