Spotting AFTER early period

Ok Ladies, I need some advice as this has never happened before. I normally get a moderate-heavy period that lasts 5-7 days. I timed my period to come around the 8th of Oct, but instead it came the 5th and lasted only till the 8th (2.5 days) It was short and lighter than normal (thought I was getting off easy for once!) But yesterday (15th) I started getting cramps again as if I am about to have my period again. It was accompanied by very light pink spotting. I put a liner on to moniter and it didn't really get any heavier, just a couple spots on liner and same when I wiped. Today the cramps are still there and in the morning had the light pink again, which has now turned brown and is more of a "stringy smear" rather than spotting. Sorry to get into detail, but this is really quite strange. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. I am sexually active with common-law.
