Which one next?

Hello there everyone. I am looking at getting a new birth control method soon and I need some good questions to ask my doctor. I always forget what to ask when sitting there with othign but a paper robe on, I'm sure we all know the feeling.

I am 19, with a one year old son, I got pregnant while on Nuvaring, and I am now on Merina, the hormonal IUD. Well, I like it, but my boyfriend has some not so nice names for it, and says my vagina is booby-trapped. It actually hurts him and he has gotten sores because of the IUD scrapping him. I've had the strign clipped shorter once before but that hasent helped.

Now I am looking to switch to a diffrent birthcontrol, and I am worried a hormonal one will not work(insert pst experience with Nuvaring).

Any advice and good question to ask a doctor would be really appreciated.

First you have to make sure that you went to the correct OBGYN, I know this sound wierd but the people who put the Merina in best work for Planned Parenthood..lol! Seriously i'm not joking. You may not have had it put in correctly, measure your dude and go back. Let the obgyn know what is going on. I am on the Merina and my dude (well my ex dude..not really used to calling him that) is well endowed and we don't have any issues at all! Its all about who puts it in.
If that doesn't work for you, please please please be careful, so many women gain weight, bleed for months on end, grow hair in areas women should NOT grow hair, etc. I'm not saying that will def happen but you really need to find the best fit for you...not your dude..lol Ask about side effects..I can NOT stress that enough. Also ask about dosing, you don't want to mess around and not have the correct dosage for your weight. For instance i'm extremly fertile so Yas didn't work for me, neither did Ortho trycycln or however you spell it

I had a plain old non hormonal IUD for many years without a problem. I highly recommend them. And I second going to Planned Parenthood, they know their stuff!
There is just no good reason for a hormone laden IUD. Talk to them about the problem with the string cuz it really shouldn't be that noticable.

Thank you both. I guess I'm just really frustrated with the ide of having to swith birth controls, I mean I did this to make my life better, and it benifits my bf, but now it is cuasing both him and I pain. Plus five years seemed like the perfect timeline, rather than a longer lasting IUD or a hormonal bc that may not work, I'm pretty fertile as well

I have had the same exact problems as you. After my 2nd, I got Mirena and my husband complained of the same problems. I also got pregnant on nuvaring, unfortunately it was ectopic and didn't make it. My family is complete and my husband is scheduled for vasectomy, but I feel your pain in trying to find something that works, because I had no luck.
