I'm a senior in high school and I'm currently going through the whole "senior health" thing. You know, where you hav to wear sympathy vest and carry around flour babies as projects.

Most of what we talk about is how easy it is to get pregnant. And by looking around at my school you can definitely find that out for yourself. So many people in my high school are pregnant. These are girls anywhere from 14-18 years old. It's a scary, scary thing.

This (like the headline says) is really random but I wish I could go around to my school and ask every girl who has/is having a baby whether or not they use protection during sex. Any kind at all. It would be interesting to find out how many didn't use any and how many were smart enough to use protection but still had unplanned pregnancies. Like, if i found out that some crazy number like 95% of them didn't use any form of birth control it would really make me feel less scared since I'm using three at once =P

Like it use to be all talk about how not using protection could get you pregnant but now it's more about how often birth control fails. So I guess ultimately I would like to know how many people had BC failings compared to how many just didn't bother using any form at all.

Does birth control fail as often as they say it does? or are soo many unexpected teen pregnancies the result or no birth control at all?

Here's some stats I pulled a few weeks ago for another thread, regarding "unplanned" pregnancy.
"46% had not used contraceptives in the month they got pregnant. Of the 54% who reported using contraception; 76% on the pill and 49% using condoms, reported inconsistant use. 33% believed themselves to be low risk for pregnancy and 32% had concerns about using contraception, while 26% had "unexpected" sex. If these numbers from the Guttmacher Inst are accurate, that tells me that tells me that 91% of these pregnancies might have been prevented with better understanding of their bodies and education about preventing pregnancy."

My sister got me on the shot when i was 18. For the couple months before that when i was just using the "pull out" method, i didnt get pregnant. But i had used the shot for almost 3 years and when i would have sex, i didnt worry about if he came in me or not. I never got pregnant on that either. Now im on the nuva ring and its been pretty successfull too. So, personally, i would recommend either. The only reason i stopped using the shot was because i gained 15 lbs during it...not fun. Hope this helps a little
