i have been getting my period for almost 6 years now (got it when i was 11). i don't remember if it was irregular back then, but for about 3 now its been irregular. i only get my periods probably 5 times every year. whenever i get it, i have extremely bad cramps. i haven't told my mom about this because i feel embaressed. i have extremely heavy flow and i get it for about a whole week, some times 5 days. someone please tell me what might be wrong.
i've heard stuff like this happens with girls usually because of stress. i am on my senior year now and we have to do this thing called Senior Project which i am always worrying about. i am just that extremely worried for no reason kind of person and i've tried to control it but i can't.
i usually take midol for my bad cramps but it does not work. i take 2 pills extra strength.
oh and i had spotting before this cycle. i got it at the end of october and my last cycle before this one was july.
i am getting very worried and am thinking of going to a doctor, but i want to know what you guys think first. thank you!

Menstruation should not be this bad. But I did have this as well. My first doctor wanted to "clean me up inside", but my mom refused the procedure since I was still a virgin (it is considered sacred in my culture).

Aside from stress, eating patterns also contribute to it. Likewise, weight, amount of exercise, thyroid/hormonal problems could also cause it. Go on google and look for the term menorrhagia, and look for related topics since I cannot post links here.

Do get checked by an OB-GYN. Ask to have your blood tested for possible thyroid and/or pituitary issues, also discuss about the BC you are using, as it may affect you also. Aside from menorrhagia, ask about amenorrhea. Just ask and make sure all your concerns are being addressed by the doctor. Don't delay getting checked.

I was diagnosed with a retroverted uterus - that was why I am in pain. The cycle was corrected somehow when I gave birth. Now that I am in a whole new "life", I am back to being irregular.

    Hey,

I was just reading through these forums and I know very well how you feel. When I first began to get my period it was regular every month, but over the past 6-7years it has slowly began to get more and more off. At first it was only a few weeks late then it went to a few months at a time. Now like you I am lucky to get my period a few times a year. My last period was back in June.. Last month though I had some spotting which lasted a day. One of the 1st things the doctor was checking me for was PCOS (Polycystic ovary syndrome ) Ovarian cysts......This could explaine a few things.

This is a good site that tells some about PCOS. I would deffinatly tell you to go see your doctor as soon as possible. Don't let it go as long as I have. It can cause some nasty stuff. Hope things get better with it.
