Yes, I must be a wimp. I had a horrible IUD insertion. LOTS of pain. Just got it removed today with a LOT less pain but it still felt like someone pierced my cervix will a dull needle. My doctor acted like I was a wimp...didnt come right out and say it but he made it obvious.

So now I am so scared about giving birth that I actually dont want to have children. When I think about getting pregnant and giving birth, I almost cry. This is really embarrassing because I am usually pretty tough...or so I thought. I guess I have a really low pain tolerance down there. I dont seem to mind other things like IV's, injuries, surgery, etc but giving birth scares me beyond words. I'm 25 and my husband really wants to get pregnant next fall. I wish HE was the one to get pregnant because I am a big chicken.

Is this normal? Can someone make me less afraid of giving birth? Is it THAT horrible?????

Well I've has two by natural childbirth and it really wasn't bad. It's an intense experience but not really painful in way that the IUD insertion or removal might have been. Educate yourself, get some of Ina Mae Gaskin's books and Susun Weeds, The Childbearing Year - they are a good place to start.

Exactly. If natural childbirths are done right (meaning lots of education beforehand and some capable people on hand), it can really be a great experience. One reason why giving birth might be more painful than it has to be is because of most women's surroundings (generic busy, noisy hospital, white walls, uninviting bed) AND preconceived notions that childbirth has to be painful.

Otherwise, there are PLENTY of painkillers on hand for this event!!

Oh ladies...NATURAL childbirth isnt even an option. Women who go natural are a different breed. One that is much tougher than I am! I am even scared WITH an epidural!

Thanks for the book suggestions. I am ordering today from Amazon.

Epidurals slow down the labor and make it all take loooooonger.

When my neice had her child, she had an epidural. Yes, it took longer, but she was on her cell texting, taking pix, and updating her Facebook during labor and would stop now and again to focus when the Dr told her to PUSH!

Sure it took longer and was a lot less intense and special, but she didn't feel a thing, and I for one am OKAY with that.
