Sedation Dentistry Anyone??

I'm a BIG CHICKEN, when it comes to the dentist & I definetely need to have some work done. I'm really considering saving the money for sedation dentistry. Has anyone tried this??? And do you recommend it???

I am so w/ya on that! I have very sensitive teeth and I can not stand to even think of having dental work! I will though if I can be put to sleep! I look forward to hearing ppl response-

I have been sedated in emergency situations or in situations where I opted for it because I am a chicken! I will tell you this...in my opinion, if I could afford to be sedated for everything at the dentist I would be. However, I have had teeth pulled and drilled and root canals fully awake too. Being sedated was a blessing. It is a very short procedure and there is no memory of anything. I am not a fan of the dentist at all and I would rather sleep throught the drilling, etc. And you feel pretty good for quite a few hours after you come to! haha.

I've never been put to sleep, but every time I go to the dentist, I get nitrous and the novocaine. the nitrous usually puts me to sleep and I'm not groggy when I come out of it...but sometimes I get headches from it.

it only costs me an extra 45-50 dollars to have it.

I think its the best thing in the world, as I also have very sensitive teeth and am terrified of the drill!

I was sedated when I was 16. I needed a filing and I'd never had one before and my friends and family told me horrible stories about having filings so I had to be sedated.
I don't remember much lol. I had to take a tablet about an hour before going to the dentist. I remember going into the dentist and having a mask put on my face and I felt a needle in my hand. Then I woke up in a bed in a different room. I don't remember the car journey home.
I'd definately recommend it, although I've since had teeth out without sedation for a brace. I think if I ever needed another filing I'd asked to be sedated again, stories about the drill still scare me.

I think you should keep in mind that going under Anesthesia for any reason is dangerous so don't do it if you can avoid it. Major surgery its advisable but for trivial dental procedures it is definitely too risky to mess with

Ive never been sedated for dentistry work - i had all my wisdom teeth removed and another on the same day at hospital.

The dentist litrally had his foot on the chair and putting all his weight backwards ...it was so funny ...there was blood everywhere , one girl passed out at the sight of my poor face when i left the room .

Ity depends on the persons level of pain tolerance ...i have a huge tolerance to pain , i even say now to my dentist ,dont bother with the injection for a filling ...i had much worse pain with other things...but he wont listen and does it anyway ...nice dentist but i understant sme people are not so good with dentist and really do need the sedation, ive seen guys fainting in fear just at the thought of going in the surgery ....FOR A CHECKUP ...they are not as strong as woman ...thats why we have babies .

I hope your dentist visits are painless and you get the sedation if you require it ...failing that ...you could always swoon if your dentist is goodlooking ,,,it works for me !!! and i get free bottle of lucozade

Dentists, no way.

I think i died from needles in my past life. My Doctor when i was 4 broke a needle in my arm, as i struggled that much, the gynecologist burning of 2nd degree cervical well he had me chatting away so nicely after numbing me i didn't know, and my chatting was all about my fear of needles and what i did to my doctor at 4, can you imagine the poor darling, whilst he's there doing it, he shirt himself i would be a jumping jack any second.... Lucky i didn't know...

So, with dentists, i also get the gas, or you can suck on something now that does the same thing, ambulances give it to you at the scene of an accident, and it makes me giggle and relaxed, so i don't see ( so to speak) the needle coming...

Also, after a few minutes when complete, i feel normal when i leave.

I am a smoker, trying to quit, so being sedated i agree can be dangerous, for me...

I had gums cut a month ago and bone placement, all just under this little tube, so it's another way, method of achieving what you require perhaps with less grogginess after.

I've had complete reconstruction on my teeth...I was never sedated through any of it..I did however get the injection of novacaine or something..I remember going to the bathroom in between the 6 hour procedure and looking in thr mirror to just see blood all in my mouth...I wouldnt want to be sedated through it, I like knowing what they're doing to me and being able to ask how much longer and what needs done next..I think I have to go back again because a filling they did on one tooth has become so sensitive to everything, and he said this could be because there was a slight chance that I needed a root canal on the tooth...The best thing is I got it all done for free. I never thought a dentist would even make a payment plan for me...Hopefully when I go back he'll give me some kind of a deal because I'd hate to take advantage of his generosity, but this sensitivity is starting to affect me even talking...

this happened to my hubby he is so scared of dentists he has to be sedated. because he hadnt been in years his teeth suffered and recently had to drag in to mergency dntist because he was in agony. he has 4 decayed teeth and had the nerves removed, that was what was causing his severe migraines
in the past he had his jaw rewired and was sedated, but had a bad reaction to the anetheisa and it took 4 hours to bring him around
