I tried taking the Female Balance organic tea by Planet Organic (Australian brand, not sure if it's available outside of Australia) and that seemed to help. The ingredients in it is Licorice Root, Sage Leaf, Nettle Leaf, Chamomile Flowers & Lemongrass, you could probably find a similar organic tea in your local health shop. I've also been taking a chinese herb (mixture of a few kinds) called Pat Chan. I think you can get them from your local chinese medical hall in chinatown. You can tell them it's for female's cycle. It really worked for me. It's not the best tasting so I boil them like a chicken soup and add some salt or Worchestire sauce.
I think western medication stops the condition but does not provide healing of the root of the problem. A friend tried homeopathy and she says it helped.
