Ok it may be just coincidence but a co-worker said that I should try Ginger snaps. You know, the cookies? Well after a 2 month long stint and one night of crunching away at about 15 ginger snaps and the next day about 5 or six it was gone. GONE GONE GONE GONE!!!! After one day and one night of periodically eating about 5 ginger snaps with breakfast lunch and dinner then a few the next day it's friggen gone. The effect was only supposed to slow down the period but I guess I over did it on the snaps. It's gone. It stopped too abruptly for it not to have had something to do with it. This is my first clear day in 2 MONTHS! Try is someone and tell me if after a couple of days if it works for you too. Good luck!

Angry Goin on 3 weeks to a month here

My periods always been very regular since the first time I ever had it. About 3 months ago me and my boyfriend were having issues and due to stress I missed my period for 2 whole months, started bleeding on the third month and now has carried on until what would now be my 4th period.

I haven't been too worried since I've been reading a lot about this now, I'm guessing I had about 4 linings of the uterus that needs to come out?

I read that stress could cause the delay of periods however the uterus continues to build up and build up and then when you finally do get your period it can be super heavy, and prolonged.

I'm really just tired of buying pads!!!! glad I'm not alone in this thing. ugh.

    Default finally!

Urtica tea seemed to work only in a couple of days (my grandma's advice)
It could be probably found in European groceries under the names of zihlava, kopriva, pokrzywa, or brennensselblatter.
This is a tea that could be drunk on regular basis.

I've been told that there are variaties of Chinese herbs that should work as well.

    Default Never ending is heck!

I am 51 and maybe this is perimenopause related. But I used to be regular when young, no cramps, 2 heavy days easier after. Now that I'm older for the past few years regular and period do not go together. Seemed every January would bring a nightmare until one night I actually fainted from blood loss. I started using Progesterone creme and it seemed to get better, that and taking Vitex capsules. Here it is June and since end of May, I have been on a roller coaster of heavy and light days, more light. I think I'm finally done and it comes back unexpected to the point that I carry pads everywhere (too light for tampons). Once I wanted to go to a movie and ack it started so abruptly and fiercely, I didn't go for fear of flooding. Now its light again but it never goes away. Month and a half is tiresome. I feel like I can never wear my light pants or go swimming again. I just want it to end and not by surgery. I heard that some women go through perimenopause for years until periods go away. I don't feel I'll be happy or normal again.

Question: any older ladies out there know if these symptoms sound normal, and how long do they last?

    Default period that won't stop

Hi, I am experiencing similar symptoms to many of you. I am 47 and until february of this year my periods were pretty run of the mill, very heavy and clotting but predictable and lasting no more than 7 days.

Then I missed a period and freaked that I was pregnant, took 2 tests, both negative - prayed for my period to start...be careful what you wish for!..It started on 6th March and just went on for ever..went to see my Doctor at end of March as was due to travel abroad in April and wanted to check that I didn't have a big problem..he said I would be fine to go on holiday so went in April, still bleeding moderately, sometimes pink and watery other days bright red with clots and fibrous bits (sorry if tmi).

On 7th April I hemmoraghed whilst in a restaurant and Dr was called..he rushed me to hospital where I was placed on a drip and after having many blood tests and an internal ultrasound was put on progesterone (400mg) for 10 days and merthergine to try and stem the bleeding. I was allowed to fly home on 11th april and told to see gp after I finished the progesterone (was bleeding even on this, but lighter) My Dr did a cervical smeer (normal)and I was sent to see a gyni (had to go private as nhs was giving me a 6 week wait and my doctor had said I needed to see someone urgently.(luckily had ppp)

On 25th April had more blood tests for everything from diabeties to thyriod plus usual hormones. My blood count was now at 8 (should be 12- 16), was told to take iron tablets (ferrous sulphate 200mg) every day. Also had scan (external this time) all seemed ok except for enlarged womb and couldn't find left ovary (nor could Spanish gyni), but Dr's not worried about this - even though have pain on left side where I think my ovary would be.

On 8th May had hysteroscopy and D and C, endometrial lining sent for tests. Told 2nd June all normal, told should be ok. Started bleeding again (black blood) on 7th June, went to Dr. told I had a womb infection probably from op. put on 3 kinds of antibiotics which cured the black blood and since 14th june have gone back to constant bleeding, flooding and clots one day lighter and bright red the next, sometimes 3 or 4 different colours and clots/light/spotting flooding all on one day..it's driving me nuts. My Gyni now on holiday until next week (8th July) so am just trying to cope until then......

    Exclamation Go to the ER!

I cannot possibly stress the title enough. If you are having overly heavy bleeding that lasts for a prolonged period, and your regular doctor is fobbing you off, GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM!

When I was 17, after 5 years of generally regular periods (no worse than any other teen), I suddenly started bleeding heavily, passing large clots, and it didn't stop. It went on for more than three months. I missed so much school that I wound up having to delay my HS graduation by a year. I was bleeding right through a tampon AND filling a pad in an hour. I had no idea where to go, or what to do. I wasn't on any birth control, and was still a virgin, had never even seen a gyno.

Eventually, after weeks and weeks of bleeding, I passed out in the shower. I was rushed to the emergency room, and spent the next two weeks in the hospital recovering from the blood loss. I had 6 pints of blood transfused, and was STILL anemic for months afterwards.
It turned out that I had a particularly bad imbalance of hormones. They treated me with heavy doses of progesterone until the bleeding finally slowed to a stop.
I had to listen to the doctors tell my mother that if I had gone any longer as I was, I would have literally bled to death, because my body was not going to correct it's self, or it would have within the first couple weeks. I kept producing and shedding the uterine lining (just as my hormones were telling me to), faster than my body could handle, taking the blood from other more important functions. I passed out because my brain was being deprived of oxygen, because I didn't have enough red blood cells to carry it, anymore.

The point being, if your doctor isn't taking things seriously, find another one. Don't let it go on for months. If they're telling you the tests can't be scheduled for months, then go to the ER. Once you've been checked in, your insurance will cover the cost of having them done there. When it's this bad, it's no better than being stabbed in the gut and bleeding out from it, and it should be treated accordingly.

Im 17. On no birth control. Not a virgin. Ive had my period since I was 12 and its always been rather regular, heavy but not terribly and usually lasts 5-6 days.
This month I was two weeks early, [started two days after sex], and its been really heavy with more blood clotts than usual.
Im now onto day 7. Not long compared to everyone else, but irregular for me all the same.
I have been under alot of stress lately too as Im moving away from home for the first time to collage in a month or so.
Im making a doctors appointment and I'm hoping this is a one off.
    'Cause this sucks.

Okay, this is my first time on here and so many women going through what I did is making post.

When I first started my period at about 13, it was very irregular. It continued (lightly) for about a year of only stopping for a couple of days a month. I would be dizzy and black out a lot. After about a year of this, it stopped and was pretty regular.

Less than a year later I had a very heavy period with lots of VERY large blood clots. I would bleed through those extra large pads every 20 minutes. I would wake up several times during the night finding my sheets soaked in blood. Finally, after a week of protesting going to the doctor despite excessive bleeding, dizzy spells, blacking out, and collapsing constantly, my mom finally dragged me to the doctor (I was 14 at the time and figured, hey, it has to stop, right?). The doctor sent me to the ER to have blood work done, which the hospital did and sent me home. The phone was already ringing when we walked in the door to bring me back immediately, as I was severely anemic and because of the excessive blood loss, was almost to the point where my organs were starting to shut down. I was literally bleeding to death and no one knew why.

I was kept in the hospital for 5 days. I had pretty much every blood disorder test known to man done, testing for every type of anemia and hemophilia. After 5 days of blood tests every hour on the hour, 2 blood transfusions (a total of 4 bags of blood), and multi-vitamin sized birth control pills, I was finally sent home because the bleeding had begun to slow down. No doctor was ever able to tell me what it was or what had caused it, and I still don't know 8 years later. None of my doctors at the time had even seen it. I haven't gone off of birth control since, fearing it would happen again if I did.

Though I never found out what happened, I did learn some quick ways to check for anemia. Normal finger nails when pushed down on turn white because of the pressure. If you are anemic and you push down on your nails, you'll see they are already white to begin with. Another quick way is if your gums are white. Also, if you pull your lower eyelid down, normally, it's pink under there. If you're anemic, that will also be white.

My advice is don't put off going to a doctor! Don't figure it'll stop eventually. Fix the problem when it's that light never-ending period before it gets to the point of being hospitalized and needing transfusions.

    Hope this helped.

Ok so ive read all your stories. Nows my turn, Im 17 and not a virgin and i am on the contraceotive injection and just had my 3rd installment and i have been on my period now for over two weeks and it is pretty heavy. Ive never had irregular periods. But i told my nurse at the health clinic where i go about the last time i had my injection, i was bleeding for a couple of days every couple of days. I thought the injection was to help settle periods? Well im kind of getting a little worried now because all you on this forum seem to not have any birth control methods and i have, and i have read up on my case on the internet and i feel like im the only one. Any help would be wonderful.
