I believe we only had one request her money back, which we were happy to do. We want happy patients. A hygienist

    Default my zoom experience

i got zoom done thursday. it wasn't as painful as i thought it would be. my husband had it done and explained it to be alot worse. the 1st 15 min session was the worst though. the gums above my two top teeth were on fire. i wrote down on paper during the treatment that my gums were burning. she said, "do you want me to pause it for a second?" so i thought that was normal so i didn't tell her to stop. i knew to expect discomfort. when we were done she made a comment that my gums were a little red and must of got some bleach on them. she also said they would probably turn purple for a while and to take a pain reliever for it. well by end of thursday they were indeed purple above my 2 top front teeth. today they are purple and look blistery right above the tooth. pretty uncomfortable! i swished my mouth w/ sea salt water & bought some vitamin E gel for the gums too.
today is 2 days later... it looks less swollen and like the purple is going away a little but i smell a faint rotting flesh smell. i am so scared that my gums are going to rot and recede and cause further probs. of course it's the weekend so i called the dentist and they aren't there. so i paged the dr 2x and they never called back! i guess it's a good sign that the pain is getting better and it looks better... but the smell is what worries me. what should i do?
everyone i've shown is scared and can't believe it... it bugs me the most because i really didn't need to do this. people always told me how white my teeth were. i just didn't like some of the yellowing toward the gums.

    Default update- zoom

went to the dentist today. he said the only thing that would do that to my gums is that the barrier they put on the gums wasn't strong enough and the light is only meant to hit the teeth. he couldn't believe how bad it looked. he took pictures and is contacting the zoom company to see what they are doing about it. the hygenist applied the barrier very well so he thinks there must be a problem with the product- either the barrier or the light. he isn't doing any more zooms until he gets to the bottom of this. he did say it will heal though which is a relief. he said if it was the bleach itself then all my gums would be burned.

    Default Zoom Whitening

I hate to burst anyone's bubble, the research on Zoom whitening by many respected dental researchers has shown that the light has absolutely no effect on teeth. The UV rays are dangerous. The whitening result that you are seeing is a mixture of a highly concentrated Hydrogen Peroxide and drying of the teeth. The light has absolutely nothing to do with it. It is purely a marketing tool that is sold to dentists. The burned lips are a direct result of the intense UV rays from the lamp.

These lights are sold because there is a demand for them. People don't want to spend two weeks whitening with trays, which is still the gold standard for professional tooth whitening. They want white teeth with no effort, and people fall for the advertising. What is sad is that some dentists still believe that the light actually has an effect.

The use of Zoom still requires that you use whitening trays for several days to two weeks following the in-office light. While there may be a jump start by using the light, at the end of the two week period of tray wearing, you are no further along than the individual who uses trays only. No further along, but $500-$1000 poorer. If you skip the post Zoom trays, then the original color rebounds once the teeth rehydrate.

    Default Zoom

To say my Zoom whitening experience was less than satisfactory would be putting it mildly. I expected some discomfort with tooth sensitivity but did not expect to suffer blisters, sores and swelling on my inside bottom lip. The pain was at times unbearable. It hurt to eat or smile and took well over a week for the discomfort to subside. I was burned literally and figuratively. The miniscule amount of vitamin E gel they send you home with is insufficient to deal with burns of that magnitude.

Nobody in their right mind would undergo this treatment if the possibility of blisters, open wounds and sores was made known in advance as a ?normal? part of the procedure. Zoom obviously still has some kinks to work out because customers shouldn?t experience burning that result in open sores and blisters. This is dangerous and totally unacceptable.

Moreover, I question the ethics and integrity of the parent company that runs and owns Zoom. Because I was in such agony, I called the Zoom customer hotline on a Saturday. (I had the procedure on a Thursday, February 22.) I was told by Zoom to contact my local Better Business Bureau. When I asked them who owned Zoom, I was told they didn?t have that information. Do they have something to hide? I did research on the Internet until I found Discus Dental. In a subsequent conversation with the hygienist who performed the procedure, she alluded to an unsatisfactory response the first time she called the Zoom dentist hotline. She, of course, was concerned about the blisters.

I followed up with a call to Discus Dental the following Monday and spoke with a customer service rep there. I recounted my conversation with Zoom customer service and he said he would speak with them. He, of course, was more sympathetic but I?ve never gotten any follow up call, so I have no idea if he even spoke with them. A good customer service system would follow up with the customer or complainant. All in all, I am left with a very bad impression of their operation. I suspect they?ll play the blame game and blame the individual dentists rather than acknowledge any lack of proper training or support to the people who use their product.

Disappointingly, I can?t even say the pain was worth it because the color of my teeth has reverted to what it was originally. I followed post-procedure instructions diligently. Due to the blisters and pain, I didn?t eat as much for an entire week and drank liquids using a straw, thereby avoiding contact with tooth enamel. The initial results, which showed a noticeable improvement, seem to have faded.

I would never recommend Zoom to anyone.

    Default i agree

wow... it seems like discus dental is hiding behind a big lawsuit waiting to happen. when i went into my dentist and he was so overwhelmed by my burned gums he had me wait in the chair while he called the zoom rep to see what they were going to do for me- and he wanted an answer to why this was happening.. he was scared to do anymore!
of course no one called him back while i was there. it's now been a week- i waited patiently for my dentist to call me like he said he would. he hasn't. so i assumed he got busy and no one ever called him. so i called them and left a message. i am going to write an email to zoom as well. i am not stopping the pursuit of this. i have pictures and so does my dentist. i am not sue happy- but if i have to pursue a lawsuit so they can't hide anymore, so no one else gets hurt... i will. there is no reason to act this unresponsible! this is peoples body's we are talking about... this is not a joke. my gums are not black or blue anymore. it's been longer than a week but my gums are way up higher on my two upper front teeth. i do hope they grow back down to their original look. they are very sensitive and raw still. and those two front teeth are super sensitive. something serious happened and i'm not going to ignore it.

The first thing you should do is request a refund from your dentist if you've already paid. Burned lips and open sores are totally unacceptable and dangerous. Until consumers stand up and realize this isn't normal and demand their money back, dentists are not going to question this product and its source. Zoom isn't going to give you your money back. I requested a refund from my dentist and got it. It will also tell you something about your dentist.

    Default swollen lip

I did Zoom to my teeth yesterday morning and can't leave the house today. When I left the dentist office at about 11am, I told the hygenist my lip was numb and felt strange. She told me it was normal and due to the mouth piece having been in for so long. At about 3 that afternoon my lip was still numb and beginning to form what looked like a blister. I called the dental office and they said I probably got some bleach on my lip, to keep putting the vitamin E on it and that it should be better tomorrow. Well, it kept swelling and swelling and swellin! Now tomorrow is here and my lip is HUGE! I look like a cartoon and by the things said here, I may be like this for a week??? And what's this about whitening trays? I was not told about nor given any. When my lip is better (if it gets better!) it seems it'll be just in time for my teeth to be yellow again.

Yes you should tell your Dentist about the result...Don't just keep quit and do nothing...Do it now, or its going to be late.
