Apology accepted =) (and if i had read more carefully i would have realized that wasthe whole reason you were asking because the antibiotics didn't work for you)

Have you tried taking acidophiles pills? They are natural good bacteria and you can get the pills at any health food store. Totally safe... i take 1 a day for digestion, but i've known people who take up to 4 a day to prevent bad bacteria infections.

    Again, sorry about the misunderstanding

I have tried just about everything and anything you can think of. I have been taking probiotics for 3 years and they haven't helped at all with BV. I was asking about the rephresh pro-b a while ago to see if anyone has tried it but no one said anything about them. I think they are new and they contain the 2 bacterias that live in the vagina and I'm not sure if the probiotics I have taken contain those 2 bacterias. I have tried many different probiotics, including the Ultimate vaginal flora that contains 50 billion live cultures but they didn't have the 2 bacteria in them either, only 1 of the bacteria was in it.

I have a list of about 15-20 different treatments/herbal rememdies that I have tried and nothing has worked to cure it. I'm very desparate and thats why after Christmas I want to do a candida cleanse to see if it improves anything.

I have heard that diet plays a role in getting rid of BV. I'm not sure if this is true or not but I am going to try to this and see how it works. I'm a sugar addict so I know this is going to be very, very hard but if it will make me BV free then it will be worth it. I know there are certain supplements that need to be taken also but I will need to read more online to find out which ones to purchase. He is a summary of what a candida cleanse is.

    Candida Cleanse
Candida Cleanse is a therapy used to treat candida infections that are caused mainly because of candida albicans. It consists of a dietary plan commonly known as candida diet.
Enlarge ImageAre you suffering from exhaustion? Do you feel that your thinking has become Foggy of late? Is your appetite is craving for sugar, sweets, chocolates or beverages like alcohol? Have you get annoyed due to frequent skin problems? If your answer is ‘yes’ to such questions then may be, you are the latest victim of Candida Infections.

World wide, Candida infections are highly placed at the fourth place when it comes to listing the common causes of nosocomial bloodstream infections. In past, Candida Albicans has emerged as the most common pathogen causing these infections. But of late, there is a sharp incline in infections due to non-albicans Candida species. Emerging drift in invasive Candidiasis is pointing towards this fact. Potentially lethal Candida infections are usual in seriously ailing hospitalized patients.

    Candida albicans
It is a toxic yeast-like fungal micro-organism, generally present in negligible amounts in the human mouth, throat, intestinal tract and genital or urinary tract. Although, these bacteria are present everywhere in small quantities, their adverse effects are kept in check by our own immune system of body. Under normal circumstances, these micro organisms are present in almost 80% of human population without any harmful effects, courtesy to the balance provided by bacteria. When this balance gets disturbed, it results in increase in numbers of this pathogen and their overgrowth.

Once overgrown in numbers, the yeast undergoes a morphosis from being beneficial into a harmful fungus. The acidophilus bacteria, the beneficial flora are then overwhelmed by this growth of fungal yeast. This new form after metamorphosis develops into long burrowing legs known as rhizoids. These rhizoids fasten themselves to the mucus lining of gastro intestinal tract and penetrates it which results in entry of larger antibodies and pathogens through intestine lining causing illness and bowl pain. The condition is better known as Candidiasis.

    Candida symptom
All types of symptoms have been accredited to Candida infection that includes fatigue, nervousness, headaches, allergies, anxiety, mood swings, frequent colds and flu, constipation, diarrhea, etc. A careful diagnosis, examination, and laboratory tests are necessary to reveal the confirmation that the symptoms suffered by the patient are indeed due to Candida. Therefore, you have to avoid the urge of a natural Candida cleanse therapy without the proper confirmation.

    Candida Cleanse
In today’s modern world our changed, lavish living styles which incorporate readymade food stuffs and modern medical practices have contributed largely to compromise our own immune system. Unnecessary and excessive use of steroids, antibiotics, over consumption of fasts food which elevate acidic pH levels, the stress which is a by-product of modern throat cutting competition in every sphere of life, exposure to environmental toxins like mercury, lead and hormone imbalance are some of the causes which are responsible for such conditions.

If you are suffering from Candida infections, then Candida Cleanse contributes to the most important aspect of its treatment. Candida Cleanse aims at cleansing your body, in particular your gastro intestinal tract that is already experiencing over growth of Candida albicans. It is very important that for getting rid of unwanted, harmful yeast. You have to alter your diet to cut off the favorable conditions in which these micro-organisms can flourish, can multiply. So diet plays very crucial role in Candida cleanse and is often termed as Candida diet.

    Candida Diet
In chronic Candidiasis, measures are taken to starve your body of some basic elements of diet which are supposed to stimulate the growth of these pathogenic yeasts. For at least a week, you should cut off the refined sugar while performing basic Candida Cleanse, as sugar promotes the growth of such yeasts. However, after a week, consumption of fruits is permitted but in more controlled proportion.

Another important feature of this diet is it aims at the restricted use of carbohydrate intake. Starchy foods should be avoided. Low carbohydrate foods like meat, turkey, chicken, non-starchy vegetables are included in the diet. According to experts, less than 60% of carbohydrate intake should be allowed for first few weeks in diet.

Fermented foods should be avoided as they are associated with yeast activities. Foods like cheese, breads made-up of yeast, mushrooms, beverages like bear, tomato paste are some of the common examples of such fermentation products.

Candida Cleanse must maintain the balance of yeast cells. It has been observed as use of anti-microbial herbs and phytochemicals in diet helps a lot in bringing back this balance. Repetition of two week diet plan with one week of break should be followed as the break will not allow the yeasts to develop immunity to the herbs.

Introduction of Yogurt in diet is proved of immense help. It is a natural source of lactobacillus acidophilus. Lactobacillus acidophilus is a kind of bacteria which offers great immunity to Candida albicans. Therefore supporting the immune system of the body with introduction of these friendly bacteria should be an integral part of cleansing.

The span of the Candida Cleanse depends on the length of time one has had symptoms and the intensity of the symptoms. The general level of health is another important factor. Daily exercises should be worked out to maintain the healthy course of life and avoid stress, desperation.

Doing this Candida Cleanse annually or twice a year can help to keep low candida levels, giving you crystal, clearer thinking, enthusiastic feeling, more energy, less health problems in general!

Sorry for the delay in this answer.
Whey powder is OK, but not the best. Whey powder consists for 70 % in lactose, which is the very good for our beneficial lactic acid bacteria. They use it for growing and producing good acid.
But 20 - 25 % is protein. Protein is the substrate for Gardnerella vaginalis (the BV - bug) to produce the fishy smell - and increase the pH. Real bad.
The rest is mineral- which are probably OK.

So a 100 % lactose is what should be used. I found out some years ago (suffering from BV), I organized to have it produced in a practical format, and market it over the internet. Unfortunately our moderator does not allow me to tell you how to get it, but you can always do a search.

As to combination with probiotics. Normally we do not recommend this. Then the foreign bacteria use the administered lactose, and when it is used up, they disappear - and our own bacteria are no better of than befor the combined treatment.

    Hi ladies
I am new to the group and have suffered with BV for 15 years after I had my last child.
( I will try not to give to much info). Five years ago I had a partial hysterectomy and things did not get better for me. The odor got worse, really after sex and if I use perfumed soaps or body wash. When I use Apple cider vinger as a douche I feel clean but dry and I have an odor that i can't smell but others do if they go to the bathroom after me. The thing is I don't smell myself but I see the reaction of other people or here their comments that let me know something wrong. I am often uncomfortable around people because of this, it is hard for me to make friends most of the time. I keep to my self or i would get dirty looks from coworkers or her comments like she stinks, or she smell. I try hard to block the feelings of having BV, somedays It depress me because I have tried many things trying to cure it. I would greatly appreiciate any advice or ideas you all have to help.

As to partner treatment - as mentioned by Mommyto4:
Both BV and yeast infection are caused by microorganisms, that are always present in our environment. When we have problems with them, it's always becaurse our way of living or bodies give them a competitive advantage. The only way to keep out of these problems is to make sure, that the bad bugs do not feel good. As mentioned, lactose is a method.
Killing the bugs by antibiotics, disinfectants or the like only helps for a while, there is always some new around, to take their place.
Treating the partner might increases the time before the bad bugs are back in business, but in the long run it does not have any effect. I know this has been scientifically proven for BV, probably also for yeast infection.

Thanks so much for this thread - I've joined the forum just because I've spent a few days reading all 31 pages of it!

Basically, I've been using Balance Active gel, but haven't given it a good trial yet, after having used RePHresh for the last couple of months (so expensive!)

I also want to try the lactose. I was going to try the Molkosan but, having read some of the recent posts about protein etc, I'm thinking lactose might be the way forward. I've found some lactose powder on Ebay (can't seem to find it anywhere else in the UK at the moment), but I'm wondering how I would use it (ie the powder). I must admit, I do worry about potential irritation being caused by powdery stuff... at least with these gels I don't have that problem.

Anyway, I'll report back both on the Balance Active and the lactose if I use it. Any advice on practical ways to use lactose powder would be much appreciated.
