Thumbs up Diving is a riot!

I love diving too! I've been PADI certified for like seven years now. I've only gone like five or six times though. That's the trouble with living in the middle of the desert. The cool thing is that the places we do are geothermal so they are warm even in the cold winter months.
I went to Cancun with my wife a few years ago but she's not the addrenalin junky that I am and wouldn't scuba with me so I only snorkeled the reef. It was still a ton of fun and we saw rays, blow fish, tons of other fish and corral.

I love diving!!! I've always wanted to dive the red sea. I learned to dive on the great barrier reef, then a bit in Cali, now I'm in Houston and it sucks!

My BF is a certified diver, and he's urging me to get certified too. I am not a really good swimmer though. Wouldn't it be a barrier? How much do I need to save for my equipment and wet suit and fins (is it how you call it?)...

I have started an online course at PADI e-learning. Then I will do the pool work and open dives when I get back in July...I can't wait to get certified.
I want to dive in Palau.

I'm from the Philippines and I am a certified scuba addict!!! Got certified about a year ago and have logged almost 50 dives since then

Diving was once just a childhood dream. I've always been facinated with marine life and got interested in diving through my dad who used to dive in his younger years now, i'm diving with my my boyfriend and being with him makes the whole experience so much more fun!

I am diving tubbataha - the ULTIMATE dive site here in the Philippines March next year and I'm super excited!!! We also have a side trip to Apo Reef! Yey!

BTW, I'm proud to be NAUI certified!

How does Palawan sound to you? If you compare Camiguin with Palawan, which one has a better diving site?

I haven't been to Camiguin, but I heard that Palawan still has better dive sites. In the north of Palawan, there's a beautiful landscape around El Nido. Even further north in Coron Bay lies an outstanding wreckdiving area (I was able to dive the wrecks a few months ago and it was an awesome experience!) While in Coron, you should also go to Barracuda Lake where you will have a totally different diving experience. Out in the Sulu Sea are several small islands and atolls (the Tubbataha Reef, for example) that can only be reached by liveaboard vessels but which offer excellent wall dives, sharks, mantas and lots of fish.

Where are you from, by the way?

No need to be a good swimmer in order to dive. I don't know how to swim and still can't do freestyle up to this day

Not sure how much the basic equipment would cost in other countries (like in the US, for instance) but I spent around P90,000 (approximately US$2,000) for my gear. I bought a slightly used, second-hand BC and opted to invest on my regulator and dive computer. Just to give you an idea on how much it would cost to complete your gear, here's how much I spent for mine:

SeacSub (vest type with integrated weights) - P12,000 or approx US$ 250.00
    Apeks regulator (XTX100) - P25,000 or approx US$525.00
    Apeks dive computer - P25,000 or approx US$ 525.00
    Henderson 3mm wetsuit - P6,000 or approx US$ 125.00
    ScubaPro booties - P3,000 or approx PUS$ 70.00
    ScubaPro fins - P4,000 or approx US$ 85.00
Henderson Gold Core vest - P3,500 or approx US$ 75.00
    Poseidon Mask - P1,500 or approx US$ 30.00
    Dive Light - P7,000 or approx US$ 150.00
    Gloves - P1,000 or approx US$ 20.00

Because diving is such an incredible experience, I feel that every single centavo I spent for my gear is worth it!

Where are you from? Have you finished your Open Water course yet?
