Doc says I'm menopausal after blood work..

Can I still get pregnant? No period for 7 months, then 1 day of barely spotting. My Dr. did annual physical with blood work last Friday and said I'm not peri.. but definetly Manopausal. I went on-line and it says can get prego till I've become post menopausal. But the definition for menopausal & post menopausal was the same.
I am confused!! Can anyobody tell me the difference & if I still need to keep using protection for the next year?
I'm 47 and DO NOT want ANY surprises.

If you got tested like the fsh test, like I did, my doctor says i can't get pregnant and haven't---

Keep using contraception until you are certain you are no longer fertile.
