Looking for advice Kind of a gross subject but I just can't get or give answers. My boyfriend has been having constipation problems for about the lst 5 months. He says its' painful when he tries and sits there for about 20-30 minutes. He also says he feels the need to go but then can't. Our dog just had the same problem and I switched her food and now she's fine. Do I really have to quit giving my boyfriend kibbles and bits too Lol, but really we eat very healthy. All the right amounts of fiber, pastas with added fiber, lots of milk, pretty much what guys normally eat. And a lot of it! Does anyone recommend anything else??? I've heard of the stool softener, fibersure, ect. has anyone used it??? I was also thinking about a cleanse, or detoxifier. Please help!

Does he drink enough water for the day?
Prunes or prune juice may help him. Do you have a rite aid there ? They sell these drinks my husband uses it sometimes, its like a purge, you take it and within a few hours you're in the toilet. Its in the section where all the fiber tablets are and all the laxatives are.

Is he getting 25-30 grams of fiber a day? Fiber is a hard thing to get these days with all the prepackaged foods and everything.

I would recommend a good bran cereal with psyllium in it.

If he's having that much trouble he should try to get around 40 grams a day for a while and see how he does. Some people just need more. He may need to take a supplement, do you have a health food store there? I saw the other day at the one here they had several different kinds.
