Mirena nightmare

I had the Mirena fitted March this year it was a disaster from the beginning I passed out having it inserted I was told this was because I had not had any children. I could not stand up for 2 days after insertion felt dizzy and sick. Then I got all the symptoms painful breasts,severe cramping,constant bleeding,fatigue and then my skin problems started about 2 months after I have never had bad skin not even when I was a teenager and at 27 I have the worst acne on my face neck arms and back!!!! I have aslo gained 15lbs. Well I decide to get it removed Sept and to make matters worse my Dr could not find it so I went for an ultrasound and they located it high up in my uterus and now I am confused about how they will get it out it was so painful having it inserted Does anybody know what the procedure is???

I have had the Mirena placed twice and I love it. I have stated before the best place to have one done is Planned Parenthood. A lot of it has to do with the doctor placing the bc. If it is something they do not do often it can be a nightmare (or so I hear) I'm very sorry you have to go through that. I do not know anything about the procedure however I can tell you beyond any doubt that you are going through this because of the way it was inserted ie....YOUR doctors fault! Of course they don't want to tell you this but I would sue! Seriously! Then ask to be put asleep when they take it out! Stop having sex until they do

I hear Mirena insertion is more painful if you've never given birth. I tried Mirena but could not keep it, I was miserable with it. I only kept it in for a little over a month. Insertion was definitely uncomfortable, but removal, even after all the misery the device had caused me during that month, was painless. I hope that when yours is removed it is painless as well - and hopefully a different doctor will do it.

How painful it is seems to be somewhat random and is not always the doctor's fault in the least. There are things they can do to eliminate or minimize pain. Some places apply a topical painkiller or even give an injection of something like novacaine to the cervix. Some will give you something to dilate the cervix. Most likely they will have to do a combination of those things to retrieve the IUD if the strings are no longer outside the cervix. Then some people seem to just be more sensitive than others. I read of one person who pierced her own cervix (don't ask me the point of it) with no pain killers and had no problem inserting a rod and poking a hole in there despite claiming to have a low pain tolerance. Others have a high pain tolerance yet the tiniest object being shove in there causes extreme pain.

My mirena experience was pretty horrible. Insertion wasn't too bad although the clamp on my cervix counts up there with greatest pain I've ever felt including the time I shattered a bone in my ankle. Actually I hopped into the house and went back to using my computer without taking any pain killers while waiting for someone to come home to drive me to the ER. Broken bones hurt a whole lot less than having that clamp in place and mine was done by a very experienced doctor who apparently placed the IUD in the perfect spot. As soon as the clamp was gone I was fine and aside from sitting a little funny in the car went about my day as usual. Then my uterus seemed to decide it was not going to stand for some object in it and spent 3 weeks trying to get it out with much pain (despite more than the recommended dose of ibuprofen and eventually vicodin) and bleeding. After an ultrasound showing it was perfectly placed my uterus succeeded in it's task and I found the IUD sitting in my cervix. No way I was having that put back in or anything else shoved up there without being unconscious and the object removed before I wake up.

Hi, I had my mirena placed in May 2009. It wasnt very painful and I had very little pain afterwards.I loved it but in October I didnt have any periods and lots of pain in the lower abdomen. The pains eventually subsided after a little bleeding in mid November.Then severe pains began in late December and went to dr.My uterus was inflamed and the pain had worsened. I had to have it removed as the dr advised that maybe I was allergic to the progesterone.
I am not on any bc now and I am wondering if anyone could recommend one for me.

Everyone know who has had trouble with an IUD, had one of these. The non hormonal type make so much more sense. Why add all the drugs to something that works without them?

I was on Ortho Tricyclen for 13 years and loved it, no side effects execpt clearing my skin. I have tried the patch, it never stayed on, tried Ortho Lo, it made my periods awful.

I got my IUD inserted on the 5th...and so far so good. But before I had this I have tried so many different kinds of birth control from Ortho-Tricyclen which gave me horrible nausea, the patch which made my skin raw, NuvaRing was alright but it liked to come out and got in the way when it came to being intimate, Ortho Low...I don't remember why I went off of that one, Seasonique I tried because I thought having 4 periods a year would be great but I never stopped bleeding on that one, Yasmin and Yaz ..both of these were actually recommended by my dermatologist to clear up my acne and did wonders! Yaz also made my usual 4-5 day period with horrible cramps and headaches turn into 2 day light periods with no cramps or pms symptoms at all. So if I was to recommend anything I'd say try Yaz. I was on it for almost 2 years before getting my IUD.

I have the non hormonal IUD. So far so good. It was inserted last October. I haven't had any problems with it yet. January 28 will mark the 3months with my ParaGard. I don't have cramps, I have what they say longer period, which for me is 5-7days. Periods are not heavy just longer. I can live with that. I would totally recommend the non-hormonal.

I had one placed in December 2008, it fell out in October 2009 on its own, I had been having really bad cramps and couldn't barely deal with the pain. Have been having normal periods and trying to get pregnant again has been , I think it may have messed something inside me up to where I can't get pregnant, but don't want to go back to the same doctor, because the had to mess up on something in the first place and scared to get bad news. Don't understand why they would give you something that could mess you up like that.
