    Default My Essure Experience

Become a member to remove this ad.
    Hi everyone.
Firstly, I have to share my condolences with all the women on here, even the ones with "positive" experiences. Unfortunately, most likely those will turn negative over time. Mine did. And although many of you have been through more than I could ever imagine, my experience with the coils went from bad to very negative.

I wanted to share my story in hopes of getting feedback, support or information as to the steps that should be taken next.

I had my coils put in and a supposed successful HSG 6 years ago at the age of 23 and after two perfect children. However, I did not trust my doctor at the time (still don't and have never been back) but knew that the last thing I would see him for was my implant placement. He had scheduled a number of Essure procedures on the same day and I was the second in my city to receive them. (Probably not a good sign to start off with)

After a quick procedure, I was back at home with minimal pain at first. (Could have been the good painkillers)
Later, I began to notice the pain usually on my right side, a slight stabbing, with movement (twisting the wrong way would do it) and before and during menstruation.
One OB-Gyn told me the pain could be ease with hormone therapy. (I laughed in her face and never returned to her)

That pain has continued on to this day.

However, I now have other symptoms I have begun to worry about.
My usually very regular period is now no more..late last month, yet to have it this month..41 days since the last, so far.
Slight cramping with no bleeding and a definite feeling of fullness in my mid and lower abdomen.

Along with my irregular periods, I have been unusually tired, feeling as though something isn't quite right. I took a HPT and it was negative last week.

Yesterday I realized I was spotting (brownish) one moment and the next, nothing.
I am worried I may have some sort of cyst beings I have a family history of ovarian and uterine cysts.

Does anyone know of cysts related to these coils?
(I've yet to search through the entire forum on Aphrodite's Discussion.)
Has anyone else had similar symptoms?
    Thank you in advance.

Update: well coils are successfully removed along with both tubes and two chunks of my uterus. Why not take out my entire uterus I don't know. After 4 months have passed after removal I ended up back in the hospital with such bad abdominal pains I couldn't walk. Go figure they send me home and told me I was cramping because I was getting my period. I've never had such bad cramps in my life from a period. So I go back to the doctor and now they want me to get an oblashion. Spelling is wrong I know. Basically a balloon goes into what is left of my uterus and they circulate boiling hot liquid into it so to burn the uterus layers so there almost isn't any which is supose to lighten or even stop my period all together. However the risks include they burn too much off and end up creating a hole in my uterus and then have to go repair or remove it. So with my luck again I ask why didn't they just remove it all the first time. All these doctor visits are getting irritating.. however can't complain too much for my insurance thank god is picking it all up.

Procedure scheduled for Mid August.. old doctor left and new one isn't coming in to take over till then. Anyway just thought I'd give update and vent a bit... thanks for listening.

I had a D&C and oblation last year. It went great and was a really good decision. Moving toward menopause I was bleeding just about continuously, once I healed there has been no bleeding. I can still feel when my period would have been but no muss and no fuss.

GoingLoco, Glad everything is looking brighter. Still working on some things for us. I wanted to let you know that there are other pregnancys with this procedure and those that I read about who decided to continue their pregnancy had no problems. I have found an article in ob/gyn journal that talks about a sucessful pregnancy. There are other places where it it is talked about. I will go back thru some of my info and see if I can find any of the ladies who got pregnant and see if they are willing to talk.

    Best wishes

I had the Essure procedure completed in April of 2007. I followed all procedures. I had the "dye" test done and was shown to have full blockage. I was very happy with the procedure and did not have any complications until March of 2009 I found out that I am pregnant. As many others have stated my doctor has told me that I am the first patient to come back after following all recommendations pregnant. If there is anyone interested in suing the company please feel free to contact me. I am not interested in suing my doctor. He has been great and is baffled that I am pregnant. I do not want to seem "sue happy" but this is a life altering event that has occurred. I do feel as if I am owed some compensation for this failure. My e-mail is hungryhipposcox.

ajackson, Sorry for your troubles. I don't know if you have read all the posts on this forum or not but there is much info about other women having problems and becoming pregnant. There is another forum on Aphrodites which has many threads on the essure metal coils. I strongly urge you to report your pregnancy to maude FDA. I have posted on how to do this but if you need help let me know and I will help you.

I encourage everyone who has had problems to make reports. There is evidence that the company nor the doctors are making those reports and they treat everyone as if they are the only one who has had problems. By making a report you will be assuring that the FDA is made aware of what is going on and hopefully they will take action or at least the doctors who have a conscience and rely on the FDA to make sure the products they use on their patient's are safe will be able to find the info.

Keep us posted and you may leave me a message on my profile by clicking on my name.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help you.

I had the essure surgery in November 2008 and I have had spotting every day since the surgery. I went for my three month dye insertion and the the tubes were said to be full of scar tissue as they were supposed to be. Yet I am still 10 months after the surgery spotting every day and I am not sure when my period is anymore. If you have any advice or idea what is making me bleed/spot everyday please email me huntlisanyahoo.com
