I will be having my coils taken out on Monday. I had the procedure done in 2006. Everything with the procedure went well and my HSG showed the tubes were occluded after 3 months. Since October 2008 I have been having pelvic pains off and on. Finally, for the last month, this pain got much worse and more severe, especially on my right side. I went to have an ultrasound on Tuesday and it showed one of the coils in my uterus. No one at the doctor's office had heard of one coming out before. My regular ob/gyn did not do the original procedure. He had tried to get me to have a tubal ligation - boy do I wish I would have listened! He referred me to a colleague to have the Essure done, but now he (my regular gyn) is going to be removing them on Tuesday. To his credit, he took my complaints of pain extremely seriously and is moving fast. He has not played it down in any way. I am now trying to decide if I should just get a tubal at the same time as having the coils removed (as he has suggested) or just go back on birth control pills. I'm a little afraid of the surgeries since my experience with Essure.

    Default essure pain normal?

I had essure coils placed on 4/28/09 I had to have polyps removed at the same time and I was supposed to have an ablation done also. The ablation was not able to be done because when she removed the polyps I guess they made a hole and the machine would not work. Anyway I was pretty sore after the procedure but it got better, now 5 weeks after I am still have some pain in both sides. It is sharp and is more predominate on the right side. Sometimes it feels like something is poking me under my skin. I had the 3 week follow up in the office and told her I was still having pain and she said it should go away; I called the Dr's office last week and said I am still having pain and she just gave me more pain meds. Is this normal should I be feeling sharp pains on and off all day. Can I expect it to go away? I figured I would just wait until I had the HSG to make sure they are in place before I complain more. I would just like to know what other women have experienced. I don’t think I can live with this discomfort forever and now wishing I just had the tubal done, I am just hoping the pain it will go away.
    Thanks for any help.

I had the Essure Procedure done September 2007. I had continuous pain on my right side of abdomin for a year during mense that got significantly got worse each month. I went in for a hysterectomy in October 2008. They left my ovaries and at the time I had a small cyst on my right ovary. Since the hysterectomy the major pain has gone away except for some mild cramping during what would be my period. Each month the pain has gotten worse. This time it got to where it was almost as bad as it was prior to hysterectomy. I originally thought that it was from the cyst but I went into the doctor and had an ultra sound and there is no cyst. The pathology report from my hysterectomy had come back that there were abnormally large cells surrounding my fallopian tubes. My doctor thinks that my body rejected the coil on my right side. Now I'm getting another surgery here soon for them to go in and look at my right ovary and fallopian tubes. They will be removing those to do a pathology report to see if it will show the same results as the one they did during my hysterectomy. I had congestive heart failure with my 2nd child which was why I was sterilized because another pregnancy would kill me. I opted for Essure because it seemed like the best option and I didn't look too much into it. Now I've had a hysterectomy and now getting a second surgery to go in and fix what happened. Even my doctor believes that it could be something from the Essure since the pains didn't happen till I had this procedure. The thing is that she even said that it is too new that it's hard for them to diagnose certain problems because with the scar tissue damage that is done in the tubes, they don't know what to diagnose. My right coile was back in my uterus but the LSH didn't help it. I'm getting pains again.

LesMW, I think that we have communicated before. There was another poster on the aphrodites forum that said the doctors said that the PET fiber could be a problem. I wonder if the PET Fiber has caused the abnormal tissue growth. It would make sense because the purpose is to ellicit the tissue growth in the fallopian tube.

I really wish doctors would stop this procedure until more is known about what all the long term effects are. Please contact me via the aphrodites forum. I may have some more info for you. I am so sorry that you are facing surgery again. Please keep us posted. Women need to know the problems with this procedure.

I had my procedure done yesterday. The doctor removed the coil that was in my uterus via hysteroscopy. I had been having major pain in my right pelvic area so he did laparoscopy to look in that area and to check on the other coil. The coil in my uterus had come from my right tube and there were adhesions on it. He removed the adhesions. He then looked at my left tube and ovary and saw that the other coil was about to come out so he removed that one also. He then did a tubal ligation. I am sore right now but I am happy the Essure coils are out!

Your pain you are explaining was exactly what I was having. I had more pain on the right hand side but I kept feeling like something was poking me on the inside. To tell you the truth my pain got worse as the months went by and I waited a year to have them removed and by then my doctors felt it safer to perform a hysterectomy. I would try to talk to your doctors about it sooner or maybe get a second opinion. Maybe you can give it another month (even though I know it's not pleasant) and if the pain is still there be persistant and if your doctor will give you medicine then see another doctor about it. I seeked a second opinion and told her I wanted them out because I didn't have pain before Essure and I was at the point where I couldn't function anymore because of so much pain. I was on pain meds and I was still miserable to where I couldn't be there for my family, friends or work. I'm getting ready to have another surgery to remove the entire right side ovary and the rest of the fallopian tubes on that side because my pain is coming back. There are no cysts showing up down there that can cause the pain but there was a lot of tissue damage done in there and so at this point since Essure is so new, it's hard to tell if this pain coming back was from Essure or not. Hang in there and if the pain still happens then definitely get a second opinion. Dont wait as long as I did.

I had this Essure procedure done in January of 07. Now I am experiancing excessive bleeding for unknown reasons. My periods where right on time up until the begining of this year now ther are all messed up. And I have recently went back to the Dr that did my procedure & took him copies of this site and told him my concerns & told him that my firneds coils came out as well. And he just acts like all this is in my head. That he does not THINK that my coils have came out or disloged some where out that MAYBE im bledding because of somethings else. But either way now im looking at having to have ANOTHER surgury because of this. So my advice to any woman trying to decide weather or not to have this done or not. If I had to do it over again I would NOT. I know 2 other people plus me that have had this done & now we have had problems & have had to go back for more surgeries to have them removed. Not only do we have to go thru all of this pain just look at all the money we are going thru! I hope everyone with the same problems as I gets better soon & that they pull this Essure off the market because there are probelms with it that needs to be fixed.

    Hello Everyone,
This is my first post. I had the Essure procedure done in November of 2008. I really wish I had researched it further. If I had to do again I definitely wouldn't do it. When I had the coils put in I was awake and it was VERY painful in my opinion. The Dr had a lot of trouble 'seeing' and struggled putting the left one in. Unlike many others I've read about I didn't have a lot of bleeding. Actually I haven't really had a period since I began the Depo shots. After three months I went for the 'dye' test. OMG - the pain getting that was almost as bad as the procedure itself. I did bleed for a day after that. Much to my dismay only one side was blocked. The other did have some leakage. Of course I didn't like hearing that I was going to have to repeat this test in another 3 months. I just had the test done a second time yesterday and it was even more painful than the first time and much to my and the dr.'s surprise I was still not all the way blocked. He said he was going to send my radiology pics to the manufacturer and see what they have to say. BTW - Dr 'claimed' the coil was in the correct spot and didn't understand why I wasn't creating blockage. Since I've had this second 'dye' test my pain is now apparent. It's not quite unbareable but after reading these forums I'm worried things aren't going to get any better. He mentioned redoing that side or just tying that one tube. I think I'm going to ask him to just remove them and tie both my tubes. I don't know what to do.
