I really like to Thank everyone for talking about the horrible experience on essure because my dr. is trying to force this procedure on me and not trying give me time to gather my information on it and I even talk to the reps from essure and still didnot get my questions answer my dr. didnot know if its safe to use my tens unit (electric shocks like get for physical therapy) plus she isn't certified and I don't see anyone in the gyn or hospital that is certified. She has so mad pushing on a technogy that she doesn't know about she did not even given of statics on patients iI only heard of one. When I went to my appt. I had to explain what was in the booklet information because she was lost. She thinks I'm a great canadiate because of my health. But it was also stated that if you have health risks not to do the procedure. She has me so frustrated I don't know what to do and is safer for getting fixed or taking what birth control method. Anyone have any ideas Please let me know what you think. THANK YOU VERY MUCH

I personally don't recommend the procedure due to all the potential risks that can occur that they try to downplay. If you have problems it will take major surgery. There are questions about being able to safely have MRI's down the road. In many cases a tubal requires no more time to heal than the essure metal coils. The tubal is done and there are no follow up tests needed, no need to use alternate form of birth control till your tubes occlude. There are cases where the tubes never occlude, the coils are expelled, the coils cause perforations and even migrate into the abdomen which is very dangerous.

If your doctor has no experience doing the procedure, you might have a greater risk for problems. Your doctor only seems to be concerned with you doing the procedure because she wants you to not because you want to. Remember it is your body. You do not have to do a procedure just because your doctor needs some one to practice on.

I had the procedure done Feb 24th. This was 10 months after my last child was born, and I had just had my first period the week before the procedure. I only mention this because since the procedure one and a half months ago, I have had 3 periods, all consisting of a few days of very heavy bleeding, and cramping that is sometimes quite intense, especially on my left side.

When I had the procedure done, there was some sort of malfuntion with the insertion gun on my left side. My tubes spasmed, and for some reason the gun didn't deploy properly. My doctor was completely flummoxed, saying that he thought that the coil didn't detach from the gun, so when he pulled it out, the coil came with it. He then used a different gun to insert a new coil in that side. It was pretty painful all three times! (2 on the left, 1 on the right).

Afterwards I had bleeding and pretty intense cramping for a couple of days, then the bleeding stopped, and I only ached on the left side a bit. 3 days after that I got my period again, with seriously heavy bleeding. The doctor assured me that sometimes the process can bring on your period, and since I hadn't really had much experience with periods in the last 19 months I didn't know if it was abnormal or not. The period I'd had before the essure was pretty mild.

At my follow up appointment, my doctor told me that he may have been mistaken about the first coil being pulled out with the insertion gun, and that it is very possible I have 2 coils on my left side. He said that he spoke with his essure representative and they assured him that that was no problem, and during trials it had been shown that multiple coils could be inserted with no ill effects.

I got my period a little early the next month, and it was again heavy bleeding for 2 days with cramps and pain on the left, that tapered off after 4 days. An entire week later, I got my period again! This time I bled for 3 days very heavily, then 3 days normal.

My husband has been bugging me to talk to my doctor about the cramping, and I thought before I did I would go out and see if that was something normal others experienced in the first months after the procedure. Imagine my absolute horror after stumbling across this thread and reading all of these stories!!! Now I am completely freaked out. Not only have many of you posted truly terrifying stories of your pain and complications from this procedure, but several have reported getting pregnant over a year after getting the "all clear"! So, I have these ticking time bombs inside me, that may or may not be traveling to other areas of my body, and regardless of whether or not my x-ray shows me to be completely blocked I may still get pregnant??????

I have an appointment to discuss my concerns with my doctor at the end of the month. My fear at this point is that since my pain is not unbearable, nothing will be done. And that by the time I AM in more serious pain, some serious damage could be done. Is anyone else out there in the early stages of their essure experience who is maybe having pain but is not sure if it's serious enough to say anything about it? Or who has a little pain, but the x-rays have shown that everything is fine?

I'm sorry for your trouble. With the cramping, excessive bleeding and the doctor not even sure if he put one or two coils in, I think I'd seek a second opinion. First the doctor should have been able to tell if the coil was still attached to the original device.

I'm sorry but I personally having been thru the ordeal myself do not feel that you can trust the company to tell the truth. I haven't found anywhere in the clinical trials where it mentioned that they put more than one coil in a tube. I have read posts from other women where the doctor put more than one coil in a tube and yes they all had problems. I would seek a 2nd opinion and not necessarily an ob/gyn. Go to a regular doctor and see if they will order xrays and other tests to see how many coils are present and if they can tell whether or not they are in proper place. I have lost a lot of faith in the ob/gyn field because they are so eager about this method and yet will not even admit that there could be major problems. Shouldn't a doctor who performs a procedure know what to do if things go wrong. Why do they all have to call the company.

Let us know what you find out.

I had the Essure done in Oct 2007. My doctor had problems with the gun/device she opened at least 6 of them. A piece of the guide wire broke off (doctor did not know at the time nor did the 4 people watching) and expelled into my abdomen cavity. The next day I called the office in pain and the nurse said well if it hurts that bad go to the ER so I did. The ER did a MRI and found it by my tailbone. When she went to remove the piece of metal she said oh let me give you a tubal since I had to have surgery anyways. I have been in constant pain since! My new gyno wants me to start taking a low dose B/C pill to see if it would help with the pain. I smoke which is the reason I went for a alternative method of B/C. My pain feels like someone is pulling on my ovaries and I fell like my uterus is falling out. Anyways it seems like you have found a lot more information on this then I did. Was there issue with the delivery gun? The doctor acted like she did nothing wrong and said you signed a wavier. The waiver was for the implant to expel not for the doctor or gun to fail. I totally feel like I was mislead by my doctor. Thanks for letting me know I am not alone and to get this off my chest.

Do you still have some or one of the coils in place? If you do, that might be the cause of your pain. The device also malfunctioned with me according to my operative report. They used another one but I wound up with perforation of the tube and uterus. There are other reports on the aphrodites womens health forum. You can find me there along with lots of other women who have had problems. Some women post on both but very few. It is interesting to read the stories on some of the other forums of the problems with procedure.

You need to make a report to the FDA. I have given instructions on both forums as to how to do it. It is not real user friendly but the FDA will not take a second look at this procedure until they recieve enough complaints. The company is supposed to make reports of malfunctions, pregnancys and problems, the doctors are also supposed to but I can assure you they are not doing it. It is up to the women who have had problems to make the problems with procedure known. Women need to know that there are a lot of things that can go wrong with this procedure.

I only had 1 coil placed and she removed that coil when she removed the guide wire and did the tubal. My new Doctor thinks it is scare tissue. I have had this pain since the day I woke up from surgery. I remember looking st the FDA site right after this happened to see if there had been a recall on the gun and my doctor did not report her problem either. There was 4 people in the room when I had this done and it was on a TV My husband was beside me and he said the there was a lady from Essure in the room. I have wondered why it had not been reported. I will visit Aphrodite and make a report with the FDA. Thanks so much for you time.

Isn't strange that essure reps seem to be present at so many of these procedures. They must know there is great potential for the procedure to go wrong.

Well I have emg surgery scheduled for this Wednesday. One of the coils perforated something and is causing internal bleeding. While they are in there they are going to make sure both coils come out and give me a tubal ligation as well.

Hopefully this will end my pain.. just have to wait and see.

I'm glad they are going to take them out. I have been trying to email you. It doesn't seem to go thru. I checked and rechecked the email you left. I just want you to know why you haven't heard from me. I've been thinking about you. Did you change doctors? What made them finally listen to you? I'm just curious. Every forum everybody reports the same things about how their doctors blow them off. It makes me sick.

I hope your surgery goes well and please let me know how you are. I hope by posting our problems we can prevent other women from having to experience the pain, fear, emotional turmoil and in some cases the extra financial burden placed on us from this so called wonderful quick recovery procedure.
