Default Appt. with Rude doctor..what now?

I am 4o yrs old and diagnosed with fibrocystic breast disease ten years ago. I had two large lumps removed ten years ago that were painful but not too bad. Recently (over past 6 months) my breasts started to ache, then they started to burn, have greenish discharge from nipples, go up a bra size and keep me awake alllll nite! I went to my doctor three weeks ago who examined me and ordered an ultrasound which showed that I was full of cysts that were hemorraging and bleeding into each other. I also had my hormone levels and thyroid drawn and they were in normal limits. Then I had that ever loving mammogram done (ouchy) that showed I had dense breasts. She gave me pain pills to sleep at nite and then muscle relaxers to take for the upper back pain I was also having (dont know why). She also referred me to a breast surgeon that I will call Dr. . Mind you, I am in so much pain I have to hold my breasts to even walk up stairs. I go see Dr. expecting to get some answers. He uses a ultrasound dobler and rubs it on the outter side of my right breast and shows me the cysts in THAT area. I tried to tell him where my pain was at but he didnt examine me or listen at all. I told him I had green discharge and he said "Im not worried until its red" then he said, "here is what I want you to do, I want you to cut your caffiene out of your diet (which I had done a year ago) I also want you to wear a sports bra (which I have always done) and take ibuprophen three times a day (which my other doctor said NOT to do because of the bleeding in my breasts) and you come back to me when you have a lump"........NICE HUH? I then explained to him my job and told him I was having a hard time working because of the pain and could not take pain meds while at work, and he offerred me pain patches to put on my breast. I told him I didnt want anymore pain meds, I wanted suggestions. He said "do what I told you to do and come back when you have a lump" Needless to say, I left his office crying. I am also contacting my insurance company as I refuse to pay for that 5 minute $300 visit (he was a specialist ). Oh and also, he told me what I was going thru was NORMAL and it was a woman thing..so, if anyone else out there is having this NORMAL experience with bleeding breast cysts and green discharge, awful pain, get in touch with me and give me some pointers. In the mean time my nice doctor is working on other options for me..have a great day all!

I feel for you, i have never heard of green discharge but i know when you are seeking answers you want answers.

Doctors can be Doctors. They stick to medics and some can't show the emotions back that you need.

You may not look at this post, it's been a while and i'm wondering where your at.

    But anger, manifests any problems.

Try a different Doctor, or specialist, and keep going until one tells you what you need to know.

I have problems with my teeth that to date, also, no one can answer yet my Dentist charged $1000 recently and has said we'll try to keep them for 5 years but not, there is no cure, we can't do anything, try this in the meantime. etc etc .. Clinical.

All Doctors are different in the way the assist.

My Mother was critical dying and one said, you know how close you were don't you, because her Doctor was away and the receptionist told her to drive to a hospital and she was in absolutely no condition to do so.

So my father was 5 hours away working, brother was on holidays and i live 1 hour away. She didn't want to bother anyone and never new the "critical " she was in.

Thank god is all i have to say. Needless to say her Doctor was livid when she found out what the receptionist said.

    Go.....

    Seek......

    FInd.....

And try not to worry to much in the meantime.

    Best of luck and love.

    Default Yet another doctor!>>moving forward

After my last visit with Dr. Rude I went to another "specialist" who diagnosed me with breast shingles. Since my post, my right breast has a place that has dented in under an old scar (10 yrs old). This specialist said absolutely nothing about it or the fact my breast is now pinkish color. He based his diagnosis only on my complaint of constant hotness and stabbing pains. He told me to take aleve throught the day for swelling. I followed his orders and it is not working. I will keep pressing on and see yet my 4th doctor on the 3rd of April! Thank you Chandlers Wish for your input! I wish you the best.

I'm hoping Caroline reads this as it will come up as a new post. She had an experience with her Doctor i read yesterday where by he hadn't kept himself up to date either and she was livid, much to my first reply ages ago.

Shingles in my understanding is stress.. Are you stressing from anything in a bad way?

I know 10 years is a long time ago as well but a dent underneath, what surgery did you have? I have heard of lots of women that have surgery and something goes out of place?

Have you googled , not that you can take that advise don't get me wrong, but i don't know green discharge from breasts and see what comes up?

My nephew recently was diagonosed with a problem that could have been life threatening, there are two ways to have this disease and fortunately his wasn't the later. But we googled to at least try to get an understanding so we could pose that question to the Doctor. Poor mite, 17, and had to have injections in his spine...

I also did with my teeth no one can answer and so far the dentist was wrong and the second one is doing everything right...

Good luck with the third, explain everything and ask him to explain each sympton and what each one means before he/she diagnoses so you get a better picture as well.

Best wishes, that sucks i bet... but you'll find the answer i am sure.

Shingles is an aftereffect of the chickenpox, not stress.
You should look at the Wikipedia page for shingles; it does not sound one BIT like you have shingles. I'm no doctor, but from what I've heard abut shingles, it's not as crucial as what you're going through.
The Wikipedia page has a picture of a man with shingles on his chest ... do yours look anything like that?
Good luck with the next doctor. I hope s/he's very gentle and caring with you ... I know doctors like that are hard to come by.

    Default Breast shingles?

Thanks again for your replies. I have no stress, other than work once in awhile but who doesnt lol. I am actually at a good spot in my life. I didn't think I had shingles either. The green discharge throws me off. I googled my symptoms and everything comes up breast cancer so I stopped looking!! I work in a hospital and last nite at work I had a nurse look at me. She agrees that it is not shingles. She also noticed I had little red dots which were broken blood vessels and these were on both breasts. She said I definately have a "dimpling" under my old scar and I am swollen up into my armpit (have pain there also). My skin on my breast has the appearance of little wrinkles? We have absolutely no idea! My right nipple is larger than left also. I will go see this next doctor (my 4th) in April and I will be straight forward because I want anwers now! Thanks for your input!

Default Finally got an answer!! Well, almost.

Had my appointment with my new doctor. First thing, she said NO, I did NOT have shingles. She even examined me!! She said even with fibrocystic breast disease, when it comes to constant pain and continual usage of narcotics for pain, that indicates there may be something else going on. Also, my left breast felt normal to her and she said my right breast concerns her. The pain has been sooo intense. She is sending me to yet another doctor, a surgeon who will drain my breast and aspirate the cysts and have the fluid tested. I also have a suspicious lump. She said that when my ultrasound showed the bleeding cysts from my FIRST doctors visit, there should have been something done then. So, I will go to this surgeon in ten days. So, maybe I am getting somewhere. I am now to the point where my armpit hurts sooo bad I cannot lift my arm and the pain is worse under my old scar that has dimpled in. Bye the way, I chose this doctor myself, she was not a referral. I did see my regular doctor again this past week and again, she told me what I was going thru is normal...yea right!

Wow, that's fantastic finally someone who is researching every possibility and sending you for more tests of value.

I am sorry that it is 10 days away, that sucks in so much pain but i guess if she thought it was life threatening you would be in a hospital now having it all checked so that's got to be good....

Well, i think it's time to change that "Doctor" personally and good for you.

Hope they can get to the bottom of it for you especially as you are in a "great place" at the moment as you posted, you don't need this dragging you down.

    Best of wishes til then.

    Default Regarding green nipple discharge

So sorry to hear about all the pain you are in. Sounds awful. I can perhaps ease your mind in one regard... It is quite normal for women to have green nipple discharge. Does it come out on its own or do you have to squeeze? I'd be a bit concerned if it comes out by itself but I had a nipple discharge when I squeezed for years. At one time breast self exams instructions always told you to squeeze each nipple - which is how I found it... I even had one Dr. tell me to stop playing with myself! I was livid. Turns out he was right, however. Squeezing causes it to form more freely. I was shocked that more Drs do not know about this discharge. I eventually got breast cancer - not related in any way - but after surgery, the discharge became a lot more pronounced and I even had 3 procedures I would not have needed if the Drs knew that women have a discharge like this all the time. Not every woman and not all the time but it is not as rare as you would think by any means. When they did a slide on it, it turned out to be protein. I googled green discharge at the time and came up with all sorts of things that were not related to cancer. Perhaps if you read a bit further into the results... Anyway - good luck with treating your breast pain.
