Default Smoking ah the root of all evil

I have wanted to do this for a long time.

Figured i might have a little more support now, than before,, lol or not.

But, i am such a positive person, i can do anything, but, give up smoking.

I am not sure it's the rebelious nature inside me, as adictions i can squash if noted, i may very well have an addictive personality, if i love something i become addited to it, but as i said, i can see if it is no good for me, and squash it except smoking.

Sure, tried, patches, chewies and even zyban, and i know you have to want to ...

But anyone that has given up, was there anything different that you did, to make it happen.

I mean really it's 2 weeks and then you can cope better and i'm tough i want to do it cold turkey, but just have some ideas, that can assist and YOU CAN DO IT ongoing when i open up here, may help....lol.

    Thanks in advance...

I did get down to 3 a day and forgot about the rest, so that is promising, i'd at least be happy to go there again until i can say go away.

I may have to start looking at them as "the evil one" problem is i have never hated anyone in my life, so it would have to be pretend.

I have worked out when i do it the most, again that's a start.

    Yep, it's hard.....

I recently quit. I found that staying extremly busy and being around people who don't smoke helps. Also if people know your trying to quit, then after it's been so long you have people who are proud of you, it's kind of nice. Now I think the only hard time I have is when I am out with friends who smoke or around my parents who both smoke. I havn't been smoke free for very long only two months but I hope it lasts.

    Default good luck

i quit and started again but want to quit again. i was very successful for 7 years and what helped the first time was preparation. I picked a quit date that was significant ( my nephew's bday) I wanted to be around to participate in his life and mine with good health. I walked alot and drank a lot of water. The months leading up to my quit date i kept telling myself what a bad habit it was health wise, smelly, and dirty. The 3 week, 3 month marks were hard for me. Another friend of mine ate alot of oranges it seemed to help her.

I started again during a weak and stressful time in my life and have smoked for the last 4 years again. It is time to "butt the habit"

    good luck!!

    Thanks Joy.

That's my life though, stressful, full on, daily, it's strange it really is all in your head, i remember when i was meeting, finally after months, someone who didn't smoke and he stayed with me, i had 3 in 1 and a half days, "usual a packet"... Goes to show, that i need a kick up the bum or something...

Probably a great guy who's supportive and keeps me busy the other times...

Disipline and me are not fans, hense why i never work for anyone either.

    Good luck back.

Default I have a great idea for you!!!!

Ok ladies...I'm going to tell you just how I quit smoking after having that crappy habit for at least 20 years. Well, one day I thought hmmmmmm....what if I just don't inhale. That is how the idea started. Well I just decided to try it. This is what I did. I would inhale the smoke into my mouth and I made a concerted effort to close off my throat with my tongue and breathe in and out through my nose. I'd then just puff the smoke out. Well it was strange at first but I think it took less then a week before that was second nature. I just kind of did that for probably about a year. I was happy as a clam until one day I thought...what the am I wasting my money on these for? I was able to just quit without any nicotine habit. It was still a bit sketchy because you see there is more then one addiction to it. You have the nicotine addiction with is physical and then there's that kidn of comforting habit of just saying...I'm gonna have a cigarette. I had the habit of smoking while I applied my makeup and when I'd have a glass of wine..that sort of thing.
Try it, it's a fun way to kick the habit. If you try it, let me know how you make out.

    Thanks for the idea.

I'll try it and let you know.

I know you have to want to, then there's this rebelious side of me, can't help myself there, and then there's the fact i can do anything when i set my mind to it, must kill rebel i think... She's too dangerous.

I started noting the time of every cigarette and telling myself "I won't have one for another hour"...gradually this became 2 hours, 3 hours, 4 hours etc etc until I had given up completely during the day. Then I smoked just one every night before bed for a few months and eventually stopped altogether.

If you tell yourself you're being denied something you enjoy, your rebellious subconscious will have something to say about that so my advice is to "allow" yourself to smoke less and less until your body doesn't need the nicotine so much.

Im just happy I quit smoking before it actually became a serious habit. I think I smoked a pack in about a week when I was 18, and thought of how gross it made me feel, so I just didnt buy anymore. Glad I quit before it got difficult.
