    Hi
I'm new here as i've been trying to figure out what's wrong with me! I'm 36 and Jan 2006 had a colposcopy and treatment to remove pre cancerous cells that were detected from a pap smear. 16 injections my cervix later, (OUCH) It turns out the cells wern't anything nasty and I was clear of any infections etc. Because of this I decided to stop adding hormones to my system so I came of the depo pill injection and had an iud fitted about a month later.
I almost passed out when I had the iud fitted, having never had children and the scaring from the treatment the pai of something entering my cervix was like nothing I had felt before! Anyway that bring me onto now! My periods gradually got worse and worse. Now my right ovary periods are so heavy it's rediculous! The pain prevents me from working and the blood loss means I can't use my mooncup or tampons! They last about a week. I am ovulating now I think in my cycle but my right ovary area is very painful again and I have an ache in my vaginal area (not sex related)
I went to see my doctor last week and he has booked me in for an ultra sound scan on the 21st of this month, I also have an appointment to see a gyny about sterilization....but I worried something is very wrong!
Can anyone offer me any words of wisdom?

Sorry for the essay! I have a tendency to talk! TeeHee

HI - did a post on an IUD before , even though i havent had one before .
I try not to worry too much over this ...i thing all the pain has come from your treatment with the cervix ..i had it done but no injections. im 40 , no children . The overy pain , yes its best to have ultrasound as you could have a cyst , i had one too , im not taking the pill though.

I wouldnt worry that something is "very wrong" its really painful...i know the pain of cyst pain ...but it seems that the problems started from when you had the IUD fitted and a common problem after having it fitted is infection ...it stems froms the actual act of having it fitted not the IUD. Perhaps if you think on this you might be doing the right thing on getting it removed . I know when i had a colp years ago to remove cells they told me staight away ...you wont be able to have a IUD because of risk of infection , so i cannot really understand why they said it was ok for you to have this . Id get it removed as soon as poss to be safe ...and go to your appointments and discuss anythings thats worrying you ...

Good luck and hope you feel better soon

Thanks for your reply Catherine, I feel better already! Am a ittle shocked though that the gyny allowed me to have one, in addition because I'm married he also didn't test me for sti's! I had only recentely had the colp so perhaps that's why he didn't test me for anything! All a little strange!
Fingers crossed having the iud out will sort me out.
Do you have any idea what periods are like after sterilization?
Thanks and I hope you're well

Hi Victoria - thanks for the kind words and im doing fine now thanks.

Well, glad your feeling a little ok , i feel awful now because when i was referring to infection - i didnt mean sti - sorry vikky, ni should of made that clear what i actually meant was infection from the IUD - a pocket of infection or any fluid or pus in the pelvis just developing solely from having the IUD inserted or say if a woman has had treatment a colp and you get an infection on the cervix, i just always use the word infection but didnt mean you had sti - sorry about that . Yes, again its really common to get infection from having an IUD fitted and its only a guess as im no expert but you say its on the right hand side ...it could be a cyst and am sure that will be ok or they could check a bit further to see if you have a condition called PID. I'd mention is this possible ? when you go to see them ...its also quite commom to get that after having an IUD fitted PLUS you can get it as a result of any abdo surgery or a colp amongst a few other ways (that would be sti) which im sure your fine there Victoria , as your a married lady . If your having any vaginal discharges , bleeding or any odours ect dont hesitate to go for a quicker appointment .

Dont know much about sterilization, as im still hoping to have a child one day i havent tried yet. But a far as i know there are a couple of ways they do it , one, laparoscopy , simple nthing few cuts , (small keyhole stuff) in belly button , few round the pubic area ectand they would use clips or somethings like that. I would imagine for periods afterwards it depends from woman to woman and nage ect if they get heavier but im sure there are things they can do for that perhaps the pill or something...the only thing is when you have a laparoscopy , it is invasive an there is ...sorry to say ...but not always ..the risk of a pelvic infection afterwards ..again the term PID , salpingitis , but usually they will be checking afterwards for this knowing youve had a lap and they would know its pelvic infection , or should know . Saying all that Victoria , dont worry , dont mean to scaremonger in any way..you know what its like once you have one thing another thing to sort out crops up but im sure you will be fine ...but id make sure that you have your abdo checked and any other symptoms just to make sure you havent already got a little bit of infection inside that has come from having the IUD fitted and the Colp procedure.

Good luck and hope everything goes well for you ...please post and let me know how you are getting along .

    Hi Cath

I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to me and offer your words of wisdom and encouragement. You really have put my mind at rest. I've decided that I am definately going to have this iud removed! I'll decide on sterilization further down the line! Not long to wait for my appointments now, 17th for the scan and 21st for the gyny. Will let you know how it goes.
In the meantime I hope your days are full of luck and laughter.

    Thanks
    Victoria

Good luck Brit! You're in my thoughts. Take care.

Thanks Delta, well I had the scan, I don't think I drank enough water because she couldn't get a good enough image so she had to scan though my vagina, it didn't hurt but was a little uncomfortable...

I asked her what she could see and she told me I would have to wait until I see my consultant on Wednesday, so I kept asking! I told her it was my stomach and I wanted to see the screen! She said I wasn't qualified to read it! At the end she told me she couldn't see anything out of the ordinary! YAY! So no cysts, or fybroids etc! So it must be this horrible coil! So I'm definately going to have it removed!

    Happy Days Rveryone
