    Unhappy Hair Loss

Last summer i started seeing more of my hair fall out in the shower. At that time i just started taking Birth Control. I was on Birth Control for about 10 months..first the pill for about 3 months and then 7 months on the nuva ring. i stopped taking it because i am tired of seeing my hair come out. I read that bc can cause hair loss and that you can see effects of it even after your off of it. Basically i need some help...any advice would be helpful. I have taken allot of vitamins and see very little result. Have any insight?

    Thanks

    Unhappy Hair Loss

    Hello,

I too am experiencing recent hair loss. this has been quite upsetting for me
as it is for you too. However I've been researching different treatments and
tagamet is one of them. I just can't seem to find a dosage for this. The info
says it must be taken in high dosages. I hope there is someone out there that may have more information on this.

    Thank you, akroban

Let me tell you from experience that birth control CAN IN FACT make your hair fall out! Depo Provera made my hair start falling out in clumps to the point that I started to develop bald spots at the age of 21! It took several years of being off of it for my hair to start growing back and my bald spots are finally gone, although my hair is still really thin.

Here are some things to help strengthen and grow hair...

    Take multi-vitamins
Get plenty of vitamin D, E, and protien
Drink a LOT of water - it helps prevent breakage
Avoid hair products with alcohol which will dry and damage
Avoid excessive sun on your hair
Use light-weight conditioner after you shampoo
Keep your hair clean - dirty and clogged scalp poors will decrease hair growth
Do not brush or comb wet hair - dry it first
Do not color or perm weak or damaged hair
Try not to pull your hair back in tight pony tails or put tension on the hair
Scalp massages are said to help with blood circulation and hair growth
Do not comb or brush hair with products in it that make it hard/brittle

Also, remember that it is normal to loose about 40 hairs a day (or so they say). If you don't wash your hair for two days, expect twice as much hair to come out in the shower then if you showered once a day. Showering is when you loose the most hair, not during every day activity.

Stay healthy, hydrated, and keep stress levels as low as possible. The more unhealthy or stressed you are, the more your hair will fall out.

Hair growth products like Rogain do work, but if you stop taking it, your hair returns to it's original state.

Changes in hormones can cause hair loss or even the opposite.

Thanks for your reply to my question. I've done research and am starting to
see the loss stop. Still thin but never the less stopped.

    Thanks Akroban

    Default Hair Loss

Hi - I have been losing a lot of hair for a few months now. I can't remember when I really noticed it but it feel like I have about only 2/3 of the hair I had before and I can see my scalp. I changed to Nuva Ring 2 months ago. I was wondering if it was related. I could really use some advice for regrowth!

Birth control has been known to cause hair loss for some people because it's messing with the hormones that have a hand in hair growth.

    Smile Hair Loss

    Dear AFP,

Mine was caused for the most part to a drug reaction, which was lamisil. I
also was having hormone problems which did not help.

I start using nioxin hair products, very expensive but helps with the build up
of the hormone (testosterone) I think it is DHT, which attaches to the hair
follicle and causes the follicle damage. Also used Nizoral shampoo 2percent
which is prescription strength. It can be bought over the counter but only
1 percent. Started taking hair vitimins, also zinc, and selenium. Plus my
usual regime of multi vitamins. Am also on hormone therapy. That was what
has worked for me. Just this past week I have noticed normal hair loss
when shampooing & conditoning. Hope this will help someone else. Also I must add that I don't know if my hair will completely regrow. Have noticed some regrowth.

    Sincerely, Akroban

    Default hair loss

    Hi,
just incase anyone is interested, Diane 35 is a BCP that has medication to help with hair loss. I have PCOS and one of the symptoms is hair loss, I'm developing a bald spot due to it, but once the doctor had put me on Diane 35, the hair loss was almost non existant.

I also had to cut my hair, because it's so long, think and heavy it was too much weight so that also helped to relieve some of the stress on my scalp.

    Hope that helps,
    Sandra
