hey all .... i am currently engaged to a wonderful guy who has a big family... these people did not approve of our relationship before but my man stuck by me .... he has proposed, our families have met and the wedding is next year 2007 .... since then they have been civil to me .... even nice on some occassions ..... but i have a hard time trusting them now since they did say some nasty things about me ..... anyways, now i am going to a week long vacation with his parents, sis-in-laws, bro-in-laws, and nephews/nieces .... any helpful hints from anyone on how one is to pull hits off.... even impress them or get them to like me .... if nothing, any helpful hints and tips on how i can survive this and come out alive

I say kill them with kindness. In-laws have been known to fight all the way up until you are married with the hopes that it's not too late to destroy the relationship. Once you are married though, things usually get better. They kind of give up and accept the relationship. Of course, it doesn't alway work that way but that seems to be the trend.

They are going to be a part of your life for a long time so if they decide to be good to you, then let them. It will make your life a lot easier. I am not saying you need to trust them, but just be nice to them. If you are always nice and bubbly with them, what could they honestly say about you then? Just keep being nice and hopefully you will grow on them.

Now if they are being unbelievably mean and nasty to you, then that's another story. Your husband needs to be the one to put them in their place. That sort of behavior should not continue nor be tolerated by either of you. As your husband, he needs to stand up for you and flat out tell them that if they can't accept you and be supportive, then they don't need to be a part of your lives. That's all their is to it. A lot of people have just forgotten that once you get married, the wife/husband is now number one in your life. Not the mom or the dad or anyone else.

Hope that helps. Sorry for the delayed response.
