I was viewing an article today and thought it was a great idea, providing you didn't spend a fortune on your wedding dress.

Originated from America (go figure) , it has now become a popular trend in Australia..

Trash the dress - photographers are adding to the wedding photos, by the bride modelling her wedding dress, ripping it to shreds ( with a smile on her face) or cutting it up with scissors, (whilst she is wearing it).

The photos looked great actually, in a good setting.

Would you ever consider this to add to your wedding album?

I guess if it's long you could cut it in a way that it ends up you can fix it to make it a new short dress..

Or, through "Divorce" haha, cut the ...........out of it with a "huge" smile and keep the photo enlarged on the wall ....

I wouldn't do this as part of a marriage album, no way. I don't care if it came from my country; I think it's wasteful!!
A daughter might want that dress one day (well, if Mom was particularly fashionable, haha.) If my mother's dress wasn't utterly early 80's (and cream-colored, for that matter) I would probably want to wear it in my wedding someday. Of course I can't expect my own daughters to be so sentimental but it's worth a shot!!
Now, if I were getting divorced, I might add that to the album ... the symbolism isn't lost on me

I see that as being like a food fight. Just wanton wastefullness. When you disrespect what you have you will set yourself up to have less. We Americans are the purveyors if planned obsolesence and waste, we've come up with some good stuff, but this has been a horrible concept. If you don't care to save the dress for future use in the family then donate it or pass it on. In today's economy fewer can afford the thousands that we've some to expect a wedding to cost. Couples would be far better off to have a simple ceremony and save the money for a down payment on a home.

That seems like some bad karma to me! And having to explain that to your kids down the road? No thanks! Not unless it was a marriage of conveniece or something.. and even then I'd hesitate!

Old thread, however, i am contemplating on dying my black and making it short... instead of getting rid of it.

No way would i want my daughter to wear a dress that didn't make it in time....

I would call that bad luck.

So what's your thoughts then on re-cycle?

Send it on, why keep it in your life? Wish it well and donate it. Perhaps someone else will find true joy in the gift. For you it is a remant of something that is over.

Good point, and actually whilst i was sleeping, lol, i realised black is not a colour you should die a wedding dress, geez talk about bad luck for 7 years, I may get another 7.....

Twas but a thought....

I would totally do it! I have a gf who got married last summer and she did it with her dress, let me tell ya the pics of her and her husband rolling around on the beach in her dress while the waves come up on shore were amazing! They turned out way better than he wedding pics. But she also ordered her dream dress online from China.. it was a whopping $160 dollars.. so doing it didnt cost a lot... She figures she isnt going to get married again, her daughter (if she has one) most likely isnt going to like it (it will be like 20 + years old by the time she gets married) Also they got her dress dirty - they didnt attack it with scissors! So its a little different... Just think you would get to wear it twice

I would'nt do it,unless I had the extra money to buy another dress but still ...why spend over 200 dollars on a dress and then shred it? Instead of trashing a wedding dress,I would sell it or give it away. Sounds like a waste of money. Kids are starving and people are trashing wedding dresses that cost the same as food that would feed at least more than a dozen people. I can see it as an artistic statement though but sounds wasteful.
Who would'nt want to wear a dress that's 20 years old anyways?? I love vintage and bet future children would dig it cos vintage rules....I think it would be fair if the groom trashed his tux too lol,but still why ruin clothes.
