Question 1st Post - Facial Discoloration due to Chemical & Laser Peels...is it true??

Hello Ladies...

I am 32 years old and still dealing with the constant battle of new acne. Not to mention the terrible acne scars that continue to haunt me from my youth.
I'm sure some of you know "that feeling". It hurts, is embarrasing, and not to mention can really take a toll on your self esteem.

Anyways....I can finally afford to take action and am seeing a derm. In fact tomorrow I am going to have a chemical peel to help with the scars.

But I'm really concerned about facial discoloration. Someone told me that because of my skintone (I'm latin and I guess would be considered olive toned.) that peels can discolorate my face. Is this true??? Has anyone done this and had this as a result???

Dealing with my scars after all these years is one thing...but to have uneven discoloration on top of that would just make things so much worse.
PLEASE HELP!!!

Well, I heard that you're not supposed to be exposed too much under the sun... during peeling time.

I'm Asian and yes, hyperpigmentation/discoloration is a common problem for us. It's less of an issue for Caucasians, according to some studies.

that's why there are lots of whitening products on the market (at least, here). Not that people would want to become white. The purpose of those creams is to even out discoloration.

Too bad my scars are deep and I don't have money to go to derma for full and continuous treatment. And yes, it's very damaging to our self-esteem.

How do I deal with it....?

I am so sorry to hear that your chemical peel didn't work. Avoiding the sun is key after a peel. I just tried a jessner peel and the results seem to be mild but I do notice an improvment. My skin is softer and more clear, but I still have mild acne. I think acne problems are mainly internal.
