Also, the burns come in splotches all over my body(not evenly :[) and each splotch starts to itch really badly at least 30 minutes after I tan.

The burn turns temporarily into a tan, but then peels away, even after I put on some Ocean Potion anti-peeling lotion. I asked a walmart employee in the skin care department about what I could do to prevent from burning and just tan. She said to wear sunscreen, that it'll block out the rays that produce the redness and keep the tanning rays in.

I haven't tried that yet, in fear that I'll keep getting those same burning, itching splotches. So I have a few questions. What might be causing the burning? And does anyone have any other better-tanning solutions? And also, how might I get an even tan without it peeling away?

    Pleeease help!
In the first question, you should know the limited time to be spent in tanning beds. Second question, actually, there are many ways or method in tanning like using tanning beds, tanning lamps, tanning lotion, and among others.

I have to agree w/ earlier posters who said "don't do it". Skin cancer is a possibility always, and that's no small deal. A certainty is skin dammage - if ya want to have skin that looks like it belongs on an alligator when you're over 40 - tanning (beds, natural, doesn't matter) are a great way to get there!

That said, we all pick our own poison and have free will. So I'd encourage anyone thinking bout tanning to do your own research from solid, vetted sources (American Med Society, U S Pub Health Service, Centers for Disease control, Amer Soc of Plastic Surgeons what ever) and make an informed decision. Also be aware that some "pro-tanning" sites or reports are,,, um I guess 'biased' is the polite word.

Spray tan. I'm fair too.... I've been terrified of tanning beds forever.

Spray tan and it will also look more natural, and you won't peel or feel uncomfortable.

It’s very harmful and my experience was very bad. Then I’ll consult it with my family doctor and he gave me a lotion which helps me a lot.

I use Clarins sunless tanner, you can buy it at most department stores. It's a VERY natural suddle look.

I used to fake bake.....I'm pretty fair skinned. My mom called me up one day and said "I really don't want you to go to the tanning bed anymore....please?" and so I was like "Eh..ok." haha. Even though I was an adult, i felt like if she felt strongly enough to say that she must have reason. Haven't been since.

Stay out of them. Seriously. And aside from that, make sure you're facial lotion contains at least a 20 spf for every day wear.

I also like the daily moisturizers that gradually give you a tan over the course of days/weeks... although sometimes they don't smell delicious, but hey, at least it's safer than the sun and a bed!

Are you on any medications? There are a lot of medications that don't react well to sunlight/tanning beds and it will cause that kind of reaction in your skin. Have you ever been able to get a tan?
