Right up front I have to say that being on birth control does not CURE acne. It does improve it, though. I've been on the pill for about 4 years. I get it through planned parenthood and it is much more affordable than through a physician. It does a really good job at clearing up my face. I still get the occasional pimple, but there is definately an improvement. The pill is also great for regulating menstral cycles. I know exactly which day I'm going to get my period every month, so I can always be prepared. It's very handy. I have not had too many side effects of the pill. If you do have side effects, you can simply talk to your doctor about it and they will start you on a new brand.

I would only suggest Accutane if you have very severe acne. I have two friends who have tried it. They had very dry, flaky skin the first couple weeks. I know the drug has some quite risky side effects. I would really do a lot of research before trying it.

But, as I have moderate acne, the pill has helped me out a lot.

    Acne home remedies:
Natural remedy for acne #1 - Squeeze an orange or lemon juice onto a cotton pad and then dab it onto the acne affected area. Leave it on for 20 minutes and wash off with water. This will minimize your acne marks and take the redness away after a couple of days.

Natural remedy for acne #2 – This is another simple yet effective way to minimize your acne marks. Slice a raw potato and rub it on your acne affected area. The vitamins in the raw potato take away all the redness and improve your complexion.
