Default Using birth control to cure Acne - Is it worthy?

    Hello all,

I have HUGE problem with acne, and I'd like to hear some opinion from you guys.

I've heard that birth control pills can effectively clear up all the acne, but it does numerous changes on your body (most of them are negative). So my question is: Is it worthy to use those pills to treat acne??? What is the worst thing that can happen to me if I decide to use the pills?

Btw, I had acne since i was 12, and now I'm 22. So I have been suffered for 10 years already. Those EDIT pimples just wont leave me alone. They breakouts all over my face, back and chest. My self-esteem cant be any lower.

The pill may help, but things may be worse whenever you stop the pill. That is what happen to me. I had mild acne but when I quit taking the pill I ended up with severe acne and finally took Accutane to clear it up.

There are alot of treatments, you may want to consider other options before messing with your hormones.

Did Accutane really help you clear up ALL the acne? What kind of side effects did you have?

Hi! I am 31, and I have had the same problem since I was 13. I have tried everything. I was also on birth control (3 diff. kinds). I recently came off of birth control and realized that I was having side effects that I never even knew about (headaches, low sex drive) until I quit taking them. I recently discovered colloidal silver as a treatment for acne as well as many other things. I sometimes use it straight, or water it down in a spray bottle, but it sure does work for me! Do a search on colloidal silver for acne and read the testimonials. Hope this helps!

    It depends

Dianette is specifically designed to control acne, but it is not a long term solution and can have bad side affects if used long term.

    Have you seen a dermatologist?
There are many other treatments, non hormonal which may help... however it really does depend on what causes your acne.

Oh and I personally would not recommend Accutane... unless you have cystic acne, with severe scarring. My Derm has tried to put me on it... but my acne is not severe enough, and it can have severe mood effects.

You need to speak to your GP and really push for referrals to see the right people.

I'm not on birth control so I can't help you BUT
My dermatologist just prescribed me some hormones along with a few other things to treat the acne I've suddenly acquired.

I hate to sound like a promoter but here's a video of my ACNE DIARY so you can see my story and see my results I'm getting off the medicines I'm taking

My friend also used birth control pills but she stopped coz she's gaining weight although her pimples are really clearing up. Some women really use birth pills to improve their skin.

That depends on the reaction you have to the pills compared to the reaction you have to anything else for treating acne and how worth it getting rid of acne is to you. Acne treatments are not without risks either and I'd rather take birth control than some of them. Personally yasmin was the best thing to ever happen to me. I've had no known side effects from it and I took it from beginning of highschool until I was 24. I have nuvarings now and they work but not quite as well. I will probably always have oily skin and I still suffer from occasional acne and dandruff when not on birth control. Hormone problems seem to run in the family. I actually gained 50lbs when I stopped yasmin and all birth control. I have started losing weight since I started birth control pills again and now nuvarings.
