    Unhappy Spidey veins!!!!!!!!!!

So I noticed last year on the back of my left leg, in the bend of my knee, I had some very faint spideys. (called spider veins for those of you that use adult language instead of toddler language like myself. ) Being 26 at the time, I was a bit surprised to see it. However, I have very translucent skin so didn't think much of it. Once I got a tan that summer it was not noticeable.

So this year I've noticed it's a bit worse. Still not horrible, but definitely worse. So I started researching and found out that wearing high heels every day (which I do, I have to dress McDressy in my job ) and crossing your legs (which I do ALOT) can drastically increase your spideys!!! It all makes sense because both of these things cause poor circulation. Oh yeah, and smoking increases them too (again because of circulation).

So all you skirt wearing high heel kickin ladies like myself take heed. When you're sitting at your desk, try to keep your legs uncrossed. If you're in a job where you have to be up walking or standing alot, try to wear a flatter shoe.

    hiya lovely!

im 24 and i have a few 'wispery' veins (as i call them - i speak like a child at times too lol!) like that. I have a few at the tops of my legs above the knees. I didnt really know what they were so just ignored them - but reading what you have written has given me the info on how to stop getting more or to stop them from getting larger. so thank you for that!

I wonder if they occur or raise to the surface from using the lap top? I am on the old laptop ALOT during each day - so i wonder if that may be a factor?

Hey there! What I read basically just said anything that restricts circulation. I sit with my legs crossed ALL day. Today I made a conscious effect not to, and it was difficult and uncomfortable for me. haha. It makes perfect sense.

I'm definitely going to start paying more attention. Also read that soaking some clothes or paper towels in apple cider vinegar and placing it on the affected area will help and also elevate you legs above your heart for periods of time throughout the week, like lay in the floor with your feet up in a chair.

    All fantastic advice mam

    Also, stockings causes spider veins.

I had mine stripped at 25, one leg, but it got worse, it was a simple procedure, about 10 little cuts and they ripped the sucker out haha, scared now?

And the cuts did leave little scars but over time you can't see them anymore.

And, it looked better than having them.

I was told at that time, pretty much all you stated, plus the stockings and also that it is a hereditary problem as well....

Eww....yowza. Cuts!?!? The two main procedures here for spideys are : laser therapy, and a therapy where they inject the veins with saline. Both are between 150-300$ per treatment and require several treatments. So in other words, too expensive for most.

My mom doesn't have them, nor does she have cellulite, nor did she ever get even 1 stretch mark while pregnant. Lucky gal she is. Her sisters have cellulite and spideys. I'm hoping this is just a little "one off" kinda situation and doesn't multiply like theirs have. YEEEEEKS!!!

Man, isn't it good to know that time changes? Remember, 46 verses 25 that's kind of a long time ago, maybe I should have waited? lol's. x

That's interesting, I have them, but never really researched it. Makes sense, because I sit on my chair with my legs up and crossed under me all day (if that even makes sense). Basically sit cross legged (crisscross applesauce, by words of my 5 year old) in my chair, sitting on my feet I guess. But more times than not, my feet constantly fall asleep, so obviously no circulation.

I guess maybe I'll make a conscious effort to be uncomfortable like you and not do that so much.

Default Take care of those unwanted veins!

Many people think varicose veins are caused by pressure from standing on their legs too long during work or exercise or that they just develop during old age. Actually they are caused by a disease in the major leg vein at the top of the leg called the greater saphenous vein, and can affect people as young as 20. Heredity is the most important factor, followed by gender and age. Women have a higher incidence of varicose vein disease; up to 40% of all women and 18% of all men will suffer from vein reflux disease to some degree. Women are more susceptible in part due to female hormones affecting the vein walls, especially during pregnancy when there is also a temporary increase in blood pressure and volume in the veins. Age is a factor because vein walls loose elasticity, causing the valve system in veins to work less effectively. Spider veins and varicose veins are symptoms of vein disease.
This procedure closes off the leaking vein that causes blood to pool in the legs causing spider veins and varicose veins. Having this procedure done will help decrease those spider veins from appearing further. And is normally covered by insurance.
-Endovenous Laser Treatment is a treatment alternative to surgical stripping of the greater saphenous vein. A small laser fiber is inserted, usually through a needle stick in the skin, into the damaged vein. Pulses of laser light are delivered inside the vein, which causes the vein to collapse and seal shut. The procedure is done in-office under local anesthesia. Following the procedure a bandage or compression hose is placed on the treated leg.
After having the EVLT performed you can proceed with the following
-Sclerotherapy (can be covered by insurance after an EVLT is performed, depending on your insurance) is a treatment using a tiny needle to inject a solution called sclerosant into the veins, irritating the lining of the veins, causing them to close. Sclerotherapy is also used to treat both varicose and spider veins that are seen on the surface of the leg. Problematic larger superficial veins [called varicose veins] are typically “ropey” and visible just below the surface of the skin. Sclerotherapy can help relieve symptoms due to varicose and spider veins. Sclerotherapy of spider and varicose veins is usually done without ultrasound guidance.
-VeinWave (NOT covered by insurance)works using radio waves that are pulsed directly to the desired area, so treatment is quick and pain free. The device was developed by a vascular surgeon as a way to treat very tiny veins on the surface of the skin that cannot be treated with sclerotherapy. The other options for treating these tiny veins, laser and light treatments, risk burning and scarring the area around the vessel, which does not occur with the Veinwave.
