Okay so it appears that my original thread was not posted either. Anyway, my question was has anyone had any problems with their silver fillings? my husband was going to the dentist because one fell off but I was telling him that I had read that that silver fillings were toxic and caused many health issues? has anyone had any problems?

Silver fillings.

The facts are simple, there is no medical evidence that supports any health problems related to silver amalgam restorations. Any practitioner who removes them stating that they are toxic (or removing them will cure MS or other diseases) is not basing his or her treatment on proven science. Liscensing boards tend to frown on that.

However, to replace it with silver is a mistake. Silver amalgam has a physical property known as the coefficient of thermal expansion (the rate that it expands when exposed to hot things..i.e. coffee). This expansion for a silver filling is greater than that of tooth structure. Big fillings tend to crack teeth over time.

Today's composite and porcelain materials are designed to more closely match these expansions and contractions, providing a better restoration over the long haul.
