Default Phobia

I'm sooooo scared of the dentist i have healthy teeth as far as i know they don't hurt or anything, but i wana go but another part of me doesn't, another thing is I'm scared that i might need fillings too as I'm scared crapless of needles and being injected.
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice to help me get over it or to help?

Thanks in advance

Ha - listen to what you just said...you think you have healthy teeth, but then you think you will need fillings?

Think about it. The longer you delay, the more likely something bad will happen to your teeth. Do you want to get older and have to use dentures?

Lastly - not all fillings will require that you need local anesthesia via injection. I had a filling done a few years back and the Dr. was skilled enough that she didn't need to give me anything.

Bite the bullet and go.

sometimes if dentists know their patients have a needle phobia they will use nitrous oxide instead aka HAPPY GAS

I had happy gas and nothing else when I had to have 4 teeth extracted a few years back. I felt NOTHING and was far too occupied to pay attention anyway, as I was watching the imaginary rainbows fly around on the ceiling.

I've also heard where some patients are prescribed a mild sedative to help calm them before a visit.. something like what people afraid to fly do before they get on a plane.

Call the dentist's office and see what options they offer for people in your situation. Trust me when I say you are most definitely NOT the only person terrified of the dentist! They will work with you. But you really should see a dentist at least once a year, or you may be setting yourself up for complications and other health problems down the road!

Don't know about where you live, but where I am, there is "laughing gas" or simular things that you can have before they put the needle in (when that time occurs) and seriously "I think in my past life I died from needles, I won't let anyone near me with one".. I have problems with my teeth due to heriditory reasons but I'm also way older than you So I have to go to the dentist and there's like 3 or more needles going in there, but with this little green thing they give me to suck on for a while first, I close my eyes and don't feel a thing, the fear is gone.

See what they have over there

Bugger, we thought we had a solution there for you

(Yes they do K, and it is great! helps heeps)

Well some people then, it's suggested to take a mercendol, a body relaxing tablet, but someone has to drive you there and back again, because you'll feel sleepy, they can be obtained at a Chemist.

Maybe try that?

I'm not familiar with what the UK has for persons with your dilemma. But I again would say that if anyone knows, the dentists themselves would.. more than likely they treat many patients with fears such as yours and they may have a mirriade of options - if you ask them!
