Default Shifting teeth, use bands but need permanent solution!

Alright so I had braces for like 5 years, and they ended up creating problems that weren't there before, grrr, one of them being they created a space in between my upper two front teeth. The braces also closed it, but years later after I stopped wearing my retainer, it reopened.

I use little teeth band things at night to keep it closed, but if I go without them for more than one night, my teeth move apart again.

My orthodontist from a few years back recommended against putting a bar at the back of those teeth since my bite might break it off, or it would cause infection or something, having to be placed so close to the gum line.

I've considered... ohhh what do you call them... crowns? Or whatever? To put over my teeth and close that space... But I'm worried about them looking even slightly different from the rest of my teeth, and I'm also worried about not having even coloring. For example, if I ever drank too much coffee OR used whitening strips, those two teeth would be a different shade from the rest.

    Errrr, anyone have any ideas??

Hmmm. can you go back to wearing the retainer?
When they make crowns you select the color, As you age your teeth do change color so you have to consider that. You can get your teeth whitened, if you had crowns you might want to work at keeping your teeth slightly whitened to match the crowns. I see people my age who have over whitened and it does look odd.

Basically, if the braces worked correctly, your bite would be normal which would a bar wouldn't break your bite. I got my braces off when I was 14, had my wisdom teeth cut out beforehand to make sure they wouldn't cause my teeth to move. Shortly after removing the braces, my two front teeth start to move and overlap at the bottom of the teeth. I went back and was given invisalign trays. They worked, but if I didn't wear them all the time the teeth moved. My orthodontist ended up bonding a metal bar to the back of the two front teeth to inhibit their movement. This has worked beautifully. I've had it on for 12 years, and just this past week for the first time had one side pop off. Went to a dentist had them bond it back on and I'm good to go. The only difference I encounter from having this is when flossing I have to use a floss threader for between the two front teeth. Or now and then I might get a piece of food stuck behind there. No biggie. Definitely solved my problem.

That sounds wonderful. Exactly what I want! I dunno man my ortho said a bar wouldn't work...! Maybe that's bull, I'm gonna get a second opinion asap. I happen to like my teeth the way they are, really don't want crowns.

If the gap is there now, you may have to wear some sort of tray or retainer for a couple weeks solid before the band is put in. The band is not meant to move teeth in to place, only to keep them there.

And this may not be the answer for you....as we're all different, but I would certainly get a second opinion. I would hate to be told that after spending money on braces etc that my teeth were going to be gapped or crooked anyway and not at least get a second opinion.

    Good luck!

Yep I wear little bands at night, they're actually those small plastic hair bands but seem to do the trick.

Alrighty, well, I'll give it a shot... really don't see other options. NOT going to wear a retainer or something for the rest of my life, which is what I would have to do!

Okay, well... might as well update! Got my permanent retainer placed on the back of 4 front teeth yesterday. We'll see how that holds up... my bite currently feels a bit weird but the dentist said it should be okay within a week. Fingers crossed... !

I know I'm late to the party here, and you have a permanent retainer installed now, but I wanted to mention something real quick. My sister had what was called a "W muscle" in-between her two front teeth. No matter what, her front teeth would get a gap between them because that muscle would push them apart. She had to go in for surgery and have that cut so it would stop. She hasn't had a problem since and her teeth look great now.

Note: I can't find any reference to such a thing on Google. There was a muscle in her gums above her front teeth that looked like a "W". Most people have one that looks like a "V". It's genetic thing. I just thought it might be a possibility in your case since they keep coming apart.
