Well I've had those suckers removed since starting this thread, and thought I would share the experience in case anyone else is in a similar dilemma. I saw an oral surgeon for a consultation and one of those panoramic x-rays, and his opinion was to have them out before they caused problems later. When I went in for the surgery, I was so nervous that I was pasty white and feeling a bit nauseous (could also be that I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything after midnight the night before). They leaned me back in the chair and gave me some oxygen to help me calm down, then they put me under via IV. Next thing I knew, I came out of it and it was all over. My whole mouth was numb and my BFF was laughing at me because I was talking funny. He took me home, I slept most of the day, and he took good care of me until I was feeling better. It was better than I expected, I had no bruising and little swelling. I was on antibiotics and percocet for a week (the pain meds made me really tired and a bit loopy), but I was in very little pain and I was up and functioning again the next day. I could only eat soft things for the first week, and I had to be careful about getting food stuck in the sockets for the next month or so, which was kind of annoying. But, I am relieved that they are gone, no more sore gums and no worrying about future issues they may have caused. Wasn't that expensive for me either, my insurance covered most of it. Glad that's over with!![]()
