Default Possible pulling of the wisdom teeth!

I need lots of opinions. I have had braces for about 2 years and I got them off in April. The back of my mouth has been hurting for a couple months now. I think it's because my wisdom teeth are slowly growing in, but I dont see anything back there. My tooth has began to rotate and I think it's because of my wisdom teeth. I am going to the dentist on Tuesday and they are probably going to tell me that I have to get my teeth pulled. So i need some opinions... Does it hurt? I have a pretty high pain tolerance but I hear sometimes dentists pull some bone out that's attached to the tooth. How long does it take to heal? Can you feel anything? if anyone has some advice, I would be grateful. Thank you!

I had mine pulled and yeah, it hurt. If they are impacted, it will be worse, so that will be something you want to find out.

My whole jaw was swollen for a few days and I looked like somebody colored the lower part of my face with a yellow marker from the bruising.

I was put to sleep when I got them pulled, that's definitely the way to go IMO.

W.teeth can cause major damage to other teeth, esp if they come in at an angle. If the dentist recommends removal, do it.

As LB said : "I was put to sleep when I got them pulled, that's definitely the way to go IMO." that's definately the way to go, esp if more than one needs to come out!

    Good luck!!

I had mine out years ago (more than 35) things were a bit less sophisticated then. Mine were growing sideways and so were impacted, which means they have to remove some bone to get to the tooth. It was no picnic but hardly a blip on my radar screen of life events.
My daughter had hers out, they were not impacted. She had a couple days on pain killers and lots of fruit smoothies. In both ooth our cases they used an IV general anesthesia. You won't be aware of the process at all.

If you have insurance I would say go for oral surgery so you can be put to sleep and not even be aware of anything happening. I had horrible pain after and some swelling but to me that was nothing compared to the fear I would have had of being awake hearing drills, the dentist saying "pliers" "forceps" and feeling the jaw pressure of having the teeth pulled. No thank you lol.

I had all four impacted wisdom removed at once, back when I was 18. It was probably my best ever dental experience. I went in, went to sleep, and went out about an hour later with four less teeth. The oral surgeon gave me some kind of painkiller but I popped only one pill, and that only as a precaution. My gums were swollen for a day or two but it wasn't anything too bad.

So how bad does the IV hurt? There was a time not too long ago when i had to get my blood drawn every month so I guess I'm kind of used to needles. But I absolulety HATE the feeling of needles put into that part of my arm. Would anyone recommend the IV in the hand or in the arm?

They gave me laughing gas before they stuck me with the IV. By that time I only felt a dull pressure in my arm.

okay that doesn't sound too bad. Isn't there some sort of pill that they can give you before you go to the doctor that makes you kind of out of it? My friend says that she takes them before she goes to the doctor..

Yeah, there is. I can't remember the name of it, but many dentists will offer them to patients to take before they get to the office. If I remember the name, I'll post.
