My brother was in a car accident and broke his jaw, he has his jaw re-wired and had to wear a type of gum shield for about a year at night time, eventually none of that worked so he needed key hole surgery both sides of his face. But I know now that he's so glad he got it done.
It was going on for over 6 years, and throughout that he couldn't even bite it to an apple without the pain being really sore, and he had a hard time chewing on meat.
If you're going through problems before hand, I suggest you get it done and don't worry, as it really will help you in the long run.![]()

To be perfectly honest, it's not a s big of a deal as you may perceive it to be.
There are many different reasons why people's jaws need to be medically broken, re-aligned and "wired shut" for alignment and healing purposes.
The healing time can also vary between patients. Try not to look at the short term "problem" but rather the lifetime of gain from having this procedure done. Is it incovenient for a while? Yes. But it is only for a very brief time over the span of your entire life and it is absolutely worth it.
There are also many reasons why dentists and/or oral surgeons hold off as long as they can before performing the procedure.
If you have ANY questions, ask your dental professional. Do not have it done until all of your questions have been answered to your satisfaction.
