    Exclamation Worried! Wisdom Teeth.

Hey all. I have been a member for a while, but I couldn't remember my login infor so I had to make a new one.

Anyways - I have been dealing with my bottom wisdom teeth for 2-3 years now and I'm 17.
Recently, my lower left molar popped through just a bit, one tiny corner of it. But now the gum surrounding it is swollen beyond belief. Dentist is putting my on antibiotics, and I will be going in for the extraction after I'm through with the antibiotics.

I have high level anxiety and panic. If I don't take my Clonazepam, my b/p goes up really high, I panic, shake, twitch, etc.

+Needless to say I am so scared to be 'put under' or put to sleep. I am afraid I'll wake up in the middle of it, or won't wake up at all.

I wanted to know, since I am on 1mg Clonazepam per day if I could take my clonazepam (as usual) the day I go in for my procedure? Will it mess anything up with the anesthesia? I really want input on this.

If you can help me, give me some tips... I'd like to know what to do after the procedure. I know not to use a straw, and to not lay flat. Any remedies for pain, bleeding, swelling, or any other problems - please include them.
    Thank you so much.

    Caity

Will not happen. It is such a common sedative that the chances of anything like that happening are slim to none. These docs are good at what they do and do it day in and day out.

You will need to ask your dentist.

Being put under the the absolute easiest method to have your wisdom teeth taken you. You will not die, you will not go into a coma, nothing is going to happen except for your teeth being removed, it is an extremely safe procedure. You will get a needle in the hand at some point in the nursing area, you will get comfy on your bed then you get taken into the sugery room. You sit in the chair, the doc says they will now put you to sleep and they will ask you to count down from 10 or count up...whatever way they make you count. If they say count down from 10 you will not make it to saying 8 and you will be asleep, next time you wake up it will be after the procedure with you in the chair all groggy like you were sleeping for 12 hours lol. That is it. You will not feel anything, will not be thinking about anything during it, you will not be aware of anything...you are out like a light.

And after they will tell you not to remove the gauze that is in your mouth so that all the clotting is working as it should. You will be tender and sore because you just had a surgery but not all people bleed more, nor do all people swell up. My cheeks were sore, and I bruised a bit but nothing horrible. You also get a prescription for pain meds, typically they are weak ones like Tylenol 3's. You will also get an antibiotics mouth wash, USE THAT EXACTLY AS DIRECTED. I had an infection when I had my wisdom teeth taken out, that infection hurt more than anything after the procedure.

I had the same problems with one of my wisdom teeth a few months back and it needed extraction. I was given a sedative that didn't put me to sleep, (can't remember the name of it now) but the dentist had said I wouldn't feel a thing and would be completely relaxed with it.

They put the needle in my arm, and that's all I remember. I was awake for the whole procedure but I don't remember it, my mother was there to drive me home after it and she told me when she came in to see me after it, I was laying in the bed and just smiled at her and said "I feel so great".

As for the tablets, I'm not sure. Usually your dentist will ask if you are on any medication anyway.

Don't worry about after the procedure either, if you need stitches, the dentist will stitch it up so that it's least painful as it can be, and he will give you all the information you need.

If you smoke, don't smoke after it because it takes longer for it to heal.

But honestly, it really is nothing to worry about at all

It's nothing to freak out about. I was awake throughout having all four of mine (which were impacted) cut out, and I remember the whole thing but never felt even an ounce of pain. You'll be just fine. Just be sure to ask about any interactions with your current meds etc.

I'm having the same problem only my teeth haven't come through they've blocked my jaw ... Having them taken out would be the easiest thing for you and it may hurt at first but it will get better. Don't have to worry about not waking up, won't happen. Better to have them done now then wait and it be more painful. Good luck.

Don't worry nothing bad will happen.. but it's normal to have foreboding feeling. When I take the procedure 3 years ago.. I really want to be awake.. I just want to see how they actually do it... but the dentist refuse so I ask for a video and he allow that... I just said that I will use it in school and I want to be a dentist like him. After the procedure I can't feel anything because of the anesthesia then I watch the video at home... and the procedure is not that bad... it's very simple.. and I'm so disappointed.. it's not the procedure that I am thinking... Relax... it's just funny if you can see your face during the operation... well that what I have seen in my video during the procedure..
