Yes! You Can!! Just stick with it.
It was amazing to read what you said, the fact that I didn't put on this weight overnight or in a month. It is just so common sense, why I didn't think like this before. Somehow it has given me peace of mind and more faith in myself.. I can do this.
Like you my mom died young also from cancer.
Yes! You Can!! Just stick with it.
Also, remember that whatever you eat and don't burn off you will keep.
If you eat something late (after 7) let it be something that will go thru your system fast like fruit etc. The plain biscuits (high carb) will turn into sugar. The tea is good if it's a nonsugar tea (preferably green tea). I'm not sure how you watch your weight but there are a lot of good tips on this site.
Such as don't fry, get a calorie count book and see how much you are taking in (shouldn't be over 2000 a day), eat lean meats, low-fat milk, make sure your colon is running smoothly if not do something about that. You should do a number "2" at least once a day. Two is better.
Hi commonsense,
I actually bought some green tea but havent tried it yet. I never fry, not in years. I grill and bake, eat lean meat, use lowfat milk and eat breakfast cereal without sugar. The fruit is a big problem for me as I have a hiatus hernia, I cant seem to find a fruit that does not contain acid. I tried apples but unfortunately they were impossible to digest. Any ideas?
I've heard that cider vinegar can help, but don't know much about it.
You are already off to a great start! You should commend yourself and be proud of the changes you have already made. You have to pep yourself up along the way too. I'm not sure which fruits are particularly low-acid. I will let someone else here answer that or google it on the web. I'm sure you could ask a nutrionist also.
We mention here before prunes, fiber tablets, oat meal. Basically things with high fiber to keep you track running clean. They have some colon cleansing things at the health food store (done every 6 months). The only one I have ever tried was "15 day cleanse and flush" by Nature Source. I only went a week though.
Basically besides exercising, every two weeks I shaved back 200 calories from an initial 2000 calorie intake. Weigh yourself on the scale to see when you see it working. Try not to go below 1000 calories a day and take a multivitamin suppliment. A glass of Vanilla Silk or chocolate Soy milk with 1 tablespoons of protein powder or a protein bar (need about 15 grams of protein) can substitute for 1 or 2 meals. Can keep you full about 3 hours.
Green tea is good for you whether you are dieting or not. Don't drink after 3 pm if caffeine keeps you up. Hang in there you'll do fine. Also keep a journal of what you're eating. It will surprise you.
Thank you commonsense,
I have never actually counted calories before, I usually concentrated on fat. Now its time for another change. To be honest I am willing to try anything. Thanks again.
I would love to know if anyone has found a solution for weight gain during peri-menopause. Reading these posts is like listening to all the things I have been saying to myself for the past year. My doctor tells me I still have about 10 years to full menopause but I am getting all the symptoms. The only one I am having a hard one dealing with is the weight gain. I workout for 45 minutes a day, five days a week and I am on approximately 1400 calories per day. My doctor said that during peri-menopause, you need to cut down calorie intake by an additional 10-20% in order to see weight loss. I am already starving all the time.
Anyone dealing with this more successfully than me??
Eating healthy and staying active makes the difference. I notice that if I let myself get down, my weight starts creeping up pretty quickly, I bump up my mood and it's all good.
I've started eating salad for breakfast lately and find I don't feel as hungry or want to eat as much the rest of the day. My theory is that the good nutriant rush gets everything balanced at the start of the day.
Starving will just cause your body to save more calories to weather the famine it thinks must be happening. Eating slowly so you really experience and enjoy your food is helpful and lets the sense of saity kick in. The custom of salad before the entree has something to do with that, since it takes 20 mins or so for your body to realize you've fed it and decide it is full.

the salad before meals is a great idea, wildchild some people suggest water but i seem to get hungrier again faster when i do that. in winter thick vege soups are great fillers, but i dont really want them in summer. my weight is all round my stomach (i am an apple) but the good thing about that is when i lose weight it shows up really quickly. exercise is a saver for me too. now i go for a walk every evening i seem to be less hungry at night - go figure??
