Angry no motivation

Let me start out by saying that all my life I have been about 120-140. I quit smoking in March 07 and since then I have gained 50+ lbs. I look horrible and want to lose the weight. I got really serious about it and got an elliptical, which I used everyday till the end of June. That is when I got a dreaded phone call at 2am saying that my dad had died, not only was that a shocker but it also shocked me when I was told that he took his own life. From then I had to go all the way to AZ (I'm in OH, and we drove it) cause I was his trustee. The trip and feeling of grief made me lazy. After that I tried to get back on track, but little things kept popping up to distract me, got bitten by a cat, hubbys grandfater died and had a house full of houseguests, we had to put my dog down, it was just one thing after another.

I tured 31 last week and ever since then I have been depressed with my life. I want to lose this weight but have no motovation, I can't stand to look in the mirror, but yet I loathe working out. I try and force myself to do something (I even got the Wii Fit to try and get me motivated, and it did, for about a week) But ever since I quit smoking all I wanna do is snack, so I have been working on cutting that out first. It is hard, I try and chew gum, but is just leads to headaches, I have tried low cal stuff, but I end up eating the whole bag.

I just need some motovation, I have tried writing everything out, I have tried the Wii Fit, I have tried SP (Spark People) I can start out strong but after a few dys I just give up. I feel like a big fat depressed loser.

Have you tried writing down any of your goals? and how clear are they?
  • Get a small notebook and make a goal and set a date. Write everyday your intentions for that day and follow through them. I DO THIS EVERYDAY AND IT DEFINITELY WORKS
  • Here is some advice i gave to another person on this site

The biggest problems on goals is not setting a GOAL DATE.

Make sure that your goal date is not a form of procrastination while manipulating your conscious to fool your subconscious mind. When you set a goal date you need to speak in the present tense and make it very descriptive. If your like me then i always put sh!t off until the last moment. but i get it done WHY?

BECAUSE THERE IS A SENSE OF URGENCY THAT IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE GOAL DATE! Can you remember back in High school or College when you were faced with a paper to write I'm guessing you took it upon yourself to finish your paper at the last closing min Huh? But there is a lesson here that is that you ACCOMPLISHED YOUR GOALS BEFORE THE DEADLINE, BECAUSE THE URGENCY THAT WAS ASSOCIATED THE PROJECT.

Set a goal date and make it Very detailed, descriptive, and apply a goal date. But make sure how you phrase it.

A goal date is not "ill stop smoking by the end of next month" because every month will be the next month therefore your urgency is not met but your goal is.

Instead "I will quit smoking by the end of October 1, 2008 by 10 pm and will start this program Today at 1:30 pm" See the difference

Do you have any type of plan to work out or loose weight?
  • More important then the work out is the actual preparation.
  • Take an hour and figure out your living situation and write yourself some type plan.
How is your eating habits?
  • My friend who is also a personal trainer told me that roughly 85% of loosing weight is not working out its the eating and eating habits.
  • You can actually loose weight by eating more just smaller proportions. Have some type of apple or banana or even small healthy snacks every one or two hours.
Hope this helps

Good luck

Smile Motivation!

Wow! It sounds you have a really bad couple of weeks, so sorry for your loss. In the mist of all this negativity you managed to STOP SMOKING and did not return to it, what an accomplishment. I think you should look into Positive Changes, they have a center in Dublin OH, not sure if you are near it. But it is a hypnosis center - yes hypnosis center. They would be really instrumental in helping you lose some weight, manage your stress, and give you motivation. Try giving them a call.

Absoultey true... 6 small meals, your not hungry and you love the fact you still get to eat all the time, change the things your eating.

If need be get a diatrition if you can afford to do so, to work out your best plan...

Hypnosis? Also good as Lakerat said, so is Accupuncture.

Are you depressed that you stopped smoking? Have you considered that you may be suplimenting the smoking for food, depressed?

Then stop it.

Look at what you achieved.

And, you can do it again, you can and you know you can.

So what is your ideal weight?

What do you want to weigh?

What are your favourite foods " that are good for you"?

See a picture of a woman you would love to look like? Cut her out paste her on your mirror.

You did good real good, you did the hardest things in the world.

You think losing weight is harder than giving up smoking? No way, smoking is a man made addiction, man made....

Eating is natural...

How about answering some of those questions - first, the advice of books and other things can only happen if you admit why you want to eat more....

Once you can answer that you can move to all of these good replies.

I actually quite smoking cold turkey, after I read "The easy way to quit smoking" by Allen Carr. It really wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. My husband still smokes and from time to time I want to have one, but I keep remembering what he said "there isn't just one" I guess in a way he gets in your subconsious, by repeating things over and over. I would try hypnosis, but not sure where they offer it (I am near Cleveland) I know Allen Carr has a book on losiong weight too, but doesn't have all the great reviewss of the smoking book. Maybe I should just go ahead and read it too.

I tried not to replace my smoking with another habit, but I did, snacking. When I am at the computer I have an urge to snack. I try to keep low cal stuff on had for that reason. I have tried chewing gum, but ever sincce I got my braces off as a teen it has given me headaches.

I would be happy to get down to my origanal weight of 140 from when I quit smoking. I would love to get to 120, but wouldn't be upset if I didn't get there.

I end up bying the kids snacks for school and I will sneak them myself. In the past couple of years I have become a fast food junkie (yes I know that is bad) With hubby working 2 jobs and me working part time, then kids make dinner for themselves and I usually pick up something after work. I hate cooking, not only do I hatge it I am bad at it. I am hoping that when I quit working (next month) I can devote more time into planning healthier meals. I just have to get over the hating to cook thing and the kids have to get over the tasting thing, lol.
