Hi...
I'm new to this site. I just had a baby girl (my first) on November 9th and I gained quite a bit of weight while I was pregnant...75lbs to be exact. During my pregnancy i was dealing with a drug addict mother that was refusing treatment, again, and I had to make the tough decision to cut her out of my life. So, I used the excuse that because I was pregnant that I could eat whatever i wanted, but I was really just eating my emotions. I've since attended some group sessions for family members of addicts and have began the healing process inside of me. I've been so used to taking care of her my whole life that I often neglected myself, but now I'm ready to take care of me. Afterall, i have my own child now and I need to be at my best for me and for her and my husband. So, I found this on-line community and was hoping to meet some women who have also had children and are working through the weight loss, I was hoping we could support eachother. I'm 5'11" and want to weigh 180lbs and I now weight 260 and I'm a size 18. I'd like to lose weight and also learn how to tips for handling emotions without eating as well as some exercise accountability buddies. Any takers???

Many have tried what you have tried and people say yes, and then leave, because they want like you but, need so much support. I am going to suggest you keep us posted, but that you join a weight group of a description ( outbound links are not allowed) weight watchers, I mean, a weight watch type place, haha. But, feel it, know why you did it, acknowledge that you are beautiful no more worries about the present future, as you are beautiful in-side, ready to make it happen on the outside? CW

Hello everyone, I am a newbie and this is my first post. I just had my 4th baby, November 14, and I am back to being depressed about my weight again. I actually lost weight while pregnant and now I am down to a 18/20. I would love to be in a 13/14. I do not want to waste a bunch of money and time on something that I know that I am not going to stick with, like going to the gym. I would rather buy a few pieces of equipment and work out at home. I am just being honest. I just want to get the weight off, I honestly feel that I can maintain once I get it off. I made some bad eating mistakes over the years, and I have definitely paid for it. I am at my biggest right now, 260lbs., and I am soo disappointed in myself. I have a problem with sweets. I have been baking Pilsbury Sugar cookies like they have announced that they are going to be discontinued. As soon as the last cookie is gone out of the container, I am pulling out another roll out of the refrigerator. They can't even cool off before I am tearing into them. It is ridiculous. I have got to get control, or I am going to make the news. I am joking about making the news, but this is soo serious. I am talking about my health. I have 4 small children, and I want to be the one to raise them. But what do you do when you have a problem with sweets, such as mine? I have tried every diet known to man, and still I am struggling. I just want to be able to wear the nice clothes that other women are wearing, and feel good about my body once again. My husband doesn't say anything, but I know that he wants me to lose weight. You can see it on his face. He tells me I look nice when I dress up, but deep down I know that he wishes that I would lose some weight, and get back to the old me. My personality I feel is even different because of this, because I am not happy with myself. Now I am not saying that I am suicidal or anything. I just want to finally get rid of this weight. I came across a new diet pill called, Apidexin, that I think that I may try. I saw that some others here have tried this pill too. I know that there is no magic pill to lose weight, but I can use all the help that I can get, as long as it doesn't harm or kill me.

Ladies, Ladies! "Diets" don't work. If you really want to change the way you behave and the way you look then you have to actually change your entire lifestyle. You have to seriously commit to eating healthy and getting off the couch to get moving. I applaud you all for realizing that there is a problem, especially those of you who talk about being unable to stop eating sweets. All I can say is that sugar is addictive, the more you have the more you want. Sugars (and processed white carbs) drive up your blood sugar quickly but then your body releases insulin and drives your blood sugar levels WAY down, making you feel the need to eat more sugar to bring it back up. It is a vicious cycle. The good news is that if you can tough it out and wean yourself off the sweets, the longer you go without eating them, the less you will feel the need to eat sugary sweets. Believe me I understand where you are coming from. I just had my second Baby Oct. 13th and she had some health problems so I started eating to feed my emotions (and lack of sleep) and not eating to feed my body. I went up to 277 before I was able to get a handle on it.
As to what you can do to get a handle on eating the sweets here are some suggestions. I have tried all of this with varying results. 1- STOP BUYING SWEETS if you can. If you actually have to leave the house to satisfy your craving then you are more likely to think twice 2- Can't stop buying because your family likes it? Put it in the freezer. Not only will this deter you but it will make it less accessible to your family too (everybody could use to cut out sugars) I sometimes keep Hershey Kisses in the freezer and reward myself with ONE when I have been good or feel the need 3- Substitute sugary treats with some of the sweeter fresh fruits out there like strawberries. You can even put a little whipped cream on them to start. This treat is sweet but MUCH healthier for you. 4- Pick up a book called Sugar Busters. It was written for diabetics and can be very helpful to anyone wanting to cut out sugars. Diabetes runs in my family so I know a lot about the harmful effects of sugar 5- whenever you get a craving for sugar... brush your teeth! or use some mouthwash. The toothpaste or mouthwash will make the sweets taste funny and you will be less likely to eat them. 6- Make a rule that for every sweet thing you eat you have to drink a glass of water. The water is good for you and will help to fill your stomach and make you feel full. So you will "trick" your brain into thinking that you just ate lots of sweets since you still get the sweet taste of the treat AND a full stomach. 7- Find a hobby. I know that is hard to do when you have kids. Trust me I have a 2 year old and a 3 month old so I know how hard that is. I have started coloring with my 2 year old and doing yoga with my 2 month old nearby. That way I get to spend time with both of my kids and I don't eat junk! 8- Finally if your trouble times are at night and you feel the need to eat sugary snacks late, go to bed. It is scientifically proven that if you are sleeping you are not eating (unless you have more problems than we know )Hope some of that helps! Let us all know how you are doing. I will keep watch on the thread and let me know if anyone needs till needs a buddy. |

Well my baby girl turned 18 today! It really true the time flies. That darling baby I fell in love with the moment I saw her is still my darling girl but now a dazzling young woman starting to explore the world on her own.
The weight will come off with a sensible diet and exersize what really matters is the time with your kids and lived ones - they won't be judging you on the size of your waist. |

Wow, everyone has great advice!!!
I'm new here as well.....but I guess I read the threads and notice how many women go through similar situations as myself. I was the first out of my college group of friends to get pregnant, I had gotten married a year prior, and moved to a completely different state. All the change and lack of friends and family, on top of being pregnant led me into a depression while I was pregnant. I then ate everything I wanted. I gained 70 lbs during my pregnancy and then went through postpartum after I had my beautiful baby girl (she is now 8 years old.) Recognizing why I ate and redirecting my weaknesses...i.e. sweet cakes= fruit, crunchy chips= salty carrot sticks...etc. is what eventually lead me to lose weight. I'm still on my road to losing weight because of falling off track and having 2 more children. I'm not sure if there is a 'best advice' since sooooo many good suggestions were mentioned! But one thing that has worked with me is accepting my body NOW. Not what it will look like or what it used to look like. But, loving your body now, is the key to losing weight for me. Appreciate your body for the things it's able to do, and appreciate the form you have. It's a hard thing to accept, but in the end, it's helped me come a long way. |
