Unhappy How do i get motivated?!?!

Hi, my name's Danielle, im 18 and have gained 50 pounds in the past 3 years due to personal medications. I've been able to get off all of the medication but i just cant seem to shed the weight. i've been eating right, (most of the time) but as soon as i get ready to go to the gym i take a glympse at the mirror or head to the car that sudden burst or excitement diminishes and i go back inside and sleep
Can anyone help me with some tips or even some motivational words?

You sound like me with smoking.

But, before I state that, WELL DONE... You know the problem, recognise it, and want encouragement, really support.

Well YOU CAN DO IT.

Okay, rebelliousness is a horrid word, but we can rebel over giving up something we know, like "comfort food", is it? There you have to say, what don't I like about myself.

Belief? Do you believe you can do it? How do successful people get where they get in life? Fail, try, Fail, try, succeed.

Actually, usually 3 times and they beat them self up when they fail but instead of saying "IT CAN'T, IT WONT, " They can say, "little monster, think you can beat me?"

POST THAT ON YOUR MIRROR, in-fact I shall join you , but with me smoking.

I read a book once, and I will go and get it again, cause i ripped pages out and hung them around and it worked.

"The Little book of quiting"...

Why something that just made sense, worked?

Where rubbish of "you can do it didn't"

So

Common sense

You want to
You need to
AND it will happen

Post a photo of what you think you want to achieve, a person, their hair, weight, all.

Put that person on your mirror.

Seriously, See and believe you can actually look like that, or smile like that and watch yourself see that daily.

I think what we omit is that our brain is so clever, what we programme it seriously will act on/believe/do.

If we hear/see/something that makes sense, than we more than likely will give it a go.

Staying power of "achieving" I believe is first see it, then believe it and then know that how ever long it takes, you will ACHIEVE IT..

It is really , in my opinion that simple.

It may be a book.
It may be tablets.
It may be disipline, foods.

What ever it is, I promise you, follow the above and you will SUCCEED.

Take a risk.

Go outside your boundries.

Broken? No way out? Pftttttt... There is always an answer around the corner if you look for the corner.

Danielle, you have in your arsenal... the miracle of youth. Your metabolism is a machine right now and you will be able to get that 50 pounds off a lot easier now that you will at 30, 40, 50, etc. Oh it comes off then too, so you will have to work twice as hard then than if you start changing your ways now.

Also weight is quick, fast and easy to accumulate. Closing your eyes to it can lead to waking up further and further away from the goal you have.

*Weigh yourself once a week - not every day and don't skip weeks. This is important for 2reasons. Weight fluctuates all day long weighing yourself every day can lead to many dissapointments as the scale flip flops around not reflecting your true weight. Do it once a week and pick the same time of day (example, every wednesday morning when you first wake up).

Weighing yourself weekly will give you a more accurate look at your progress, but do not give up when you see fluctuations and KNOW you are sticking to plan. A lot of times weightloss slows or stops at first, some people even gain some weight while getting use to working out etc. Also if you ignore the scale , its so easy to put your mind in a place of denial which can lead to more and more weight gain.

*Be true to yourself - get a notebook, write down the date and your weight and hold yourself accountable for checking in.

*Do not go on crazy fad diets, take crazy diet pills, starve yourself or anything that will lead to you putting the weight back on PLUS many more pounds once you go back to a normal diet.

*Work out, exercise, walk, park from away from you intend to go. Move constantly. Everything you do is burning calories. If you haven't worked out in a while start with walking, 20 minutes a day and build up from there. Ellliptical machines are great for burning calories without stress to the joints and getting out of breath super easy. You should be doing some form of cardio, definitely.

*Keep track of what you eat every day, a food journal. Make the lowest calorie choices. Eat lots of fruits and vegetables and avoid greasy fried foods and foods high in sugar.

The thing is, at your age, you trully only have to work about half as hard as someone my age. Take advantage of that and get your body conditioned now and just enjoy the rewards of a lean healthy body the rest of your adulthood.

50 pounds is not too much to lose. Most dietians and doctors think a 1-2 pound weight loss per week is safe (be sure to check with your dr. to find out what is safe for you) if you stuck to your plan... you could safely be minus your 50 pounds in 6 months. Think about it. By new years eve of 2009 you can be a whole new you in the hottest dress available feeling healthy and proud.

That seems like so long off, too much trouble etc. Its not, new years eve of 2009 will roll around on the calender whether or not you change your habits, why not stick to your guns and know that this time you don't care that its going to take so long, you will be where you want to be soon enough Good luck and never stop trying, never give up on yourself, know that you are worth it, know that you have the power within yourself to choose life over food, to choose exercise over bed and to choose strength instead of doubt.

Your age makes this idea a little difficult but put up some pics of yourself at an 'ideal' wieght. Since you were still developing when you got put on all these meds you may have to photo shop a bit. Don't get unrealistic, just how you would look at a good healthy weight. Mentally put your self there, how would it feel, how easy would movement and activity be? Your mind is powerful if you do this often and strongly enough, it will help you get there.

Default You can do it!!!

I feel for you I really do. I gained a lot of weight after college and I have recently taken off 56 pounds. The hardest part is the hurt and how the weight makes you feel.

Let me tell you right now it’s worth it to loose weight! And if I can do it I know you can too! Before I never thought I could take off the weight. I just thought that was how I was going to look. Then one day I went to the doctor's office, and when they had me get on the scale I weighed 235 pounds. I told myself that was enough and I was going to change, and I did. You can too. You just think you can’t right now but you can.

It was hard for me to find motivation to go to the gym too because I felt so out of place. I was afraid people would make fun of me because I was so big. I wanted to swim but scared to death to even step foot in the gym. Then one day I just told myself I was going to do it and I did. I have had many ups and downs and changes but I never stopped. That’s the key. To not stop and just keep going. Now I go to the gym once or twice a week to swim laps and I am also using the Wii Fit and EA sports to help me with my weight loss goals. There is also free exercise videos provided online and many cable providers offer free exercise videos. I also own a yoga ball, purchased workout dvds, and use free weights. I’ve even created my own Pilates workout that I do on the floor while my husband and I watch tv. A word of warning though I’ve found that if I eat too much during the week, no matter how much I’ve worked out, I won’t loose weight.

Diet is really important. The biggest goal is not to overeat. You put on weight because you’re taking in more calories then your body can burn. So your body is built to store it, and that is exactly what our bodies did. They stored all that extra energy. Now its time to burn it off! And not overeating is a step towards reaching your ideal body.

I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables and chocolate. Yah, I eat chocolate. Just in moderation. Actually, I dropped my first 15 pounds while still eating m&ms a few days out of the week. You do not have to take out your favorite foods; you can just eat the sweet things or high carb foods in moderation. Look at food as your body’s fuel. I’ve always been an emotional eater so I had to change my thinking to realize that food was not something I should use to comfort myself. Now if I feel sad or stressed I go on a walk. I’ve really had to change my thinking regarding food and my body. You may need to do that too.

I also recently started counting calories, something I thought I’d never do. LOL. I actually love it because it takes what I eat and puts it into math so I can study my results. Its taken five weeks but now I know how many calories and carbs to eat during the week for me to loose around 1.5 pounds. I do not like loosing over 2 pounds a week though. It’s easier to put back on the weight if you are loosing that much a week. Also, I use a website called the daily plate. It will tell you how many calories you should eat a day if you want to loose weight and it’s a search engine to help you look up foods so you know how many calories are in the foods you eat. You’d be surprised at how many calories you can consume in a day by eating certain foods. Believe me fruits and veggies have far fewer calories! Oh and having enough protein in your diet is vital to helping you to loose weight so be sure to eat enough protein. Once you get the hang of it you’ll start dropping the weight and start feeling great! I know I sure did.

I love how I look now. I love getting compliments about how fit and healthy I look! I love going to the store and knowing the clothing I like will fit. I love wearing a bunch of new things and actually showing a little skin.

Don’t give up!!! You can do it!!! I know you can!!!!

(Hope this helps! )

Default motivation

it is hard to be motivated when there is no one on board with you.. i borrow peoples dogs...that helps.. i walk them when their owners can't get some big dogs because you can go faster and you really won't think about it so much.. good luck.. i have 50 to lose also...also, i have to learn to put me first...

I've just started a new workout and I feel amazing! I have the greatest workout buddy she is so helpful cause really I can be so uncoordinated lol. She has a goal similar to mine and she has a great attitude about working out hard and seeing the rewards.

Once you start you will never regret. You will feel so much better. You are so young and everyone is correct when they say make healthy choices now.

Don't force yourself to do a work out you don't like .. if you like swim then do it. If you like to go to the gym then head to the gym. If you hate to bike then don't do it you won't enjoy the gift you are giving you self each day

good luck and keep us posted
