Default i need to lose weight. i guess thats why im posting this...

ok, so im over weight. very overweight for my age. im 210 lbs, and im 16. the weight accumulated over the years throughout my childhood. it was always 'have a kool-aid' here, and a 'its one cookie. it wont hurt.' there, and i never learned any healthy habits as a child from anybody in my family. i remember going to my nanas house for spring break and gaining ten pounds while i was there for a week when i was ten. now, i really want to change. i dont want to look the way i do now, and i want to be healthier. i have adopted some healthy habits. i used to drink soda like it was water when i was younger, but now for every soda i drink, i make myself drink 2 glasses of water, and it has deterred me from drinking soda. i eat more fruits and veggies. the problem is that i cant cook, and i eat differently than the rest of my family (im a pescatarian). my parents always tell me to lose weight, but they arent exactly the healthiest either. if you open our fridge, you will find pizza (pepperoni, so thankfully its one thing that i CANT eat), ice cream, donuts, etc. i try not to eat what they buy, but, regretfully, a lot of time that doesnt always work. i suck at cooking, so there is not much i can do besides eat fruit and lean cuisine (although my sister does sometimes cook me very delicious vegetarian meals (she is a vegetarian)). can anyone give me tips on how to change my eating habits and easy recipies for me to try? (and when i say i cant cook, i mean it. i burn everything)
i have never posted anything like this before, and i never talk about it with my parents because then they think that i should dedicate my ENTIRE life to losing weight and give me **** when i do things like watch my favorite tv show at 7pm. so what im trying to say here is please be a little bit sensitive toward my feelings. be honest, but not harsh. thank you so so so much.

Why don't you look for a step by step, easy cook book and start studying it, then ask your sister to "teach" you to cook what she cooks because you want to learn.

It's great that you have this attitude but remember it won't happen over night okay.

I can tell you don't want your parents knowing so that's why I am suggesting you simply make it look like you want to learn to cook, instead of what you are cooking, I get that they will ask you daily how it's going, and hounding you if they know.

But at some point, you probably should be asking them to help by buying things that you "want to eat" and less of the junk food, to help you.

What about starting to walk 5 minutes a day, then turning into 10 and so on as time goes by as well.

Maybe you can confide in a girlfriend and go over there to learn to cook as well, like " cooking lessons".

Meloncube!
I am proud of the small changes you have already started to make. I encourage you to continue the pattern of drinking more water and changing you thought patterns. I am in the process of losing weight and changing my outlook and relationship with food. At the end of the day it's just substance and we have the power and will to say no to it if we don't need it. It sucks when parents are always asking and sometimes it makes the process of losing weight even harder. I find the more my mom asks me the more I don't want to lose weight/eat healthy...almost like I want to rebel even though I'm 22. If you ever need anyone to vent to or need encouragement just contact me! I'd love to help you out anyway I can. You can do it one step at a time. Small changes lead to healthy results.

A serious and genuine congrats for trying to develop healthy habits at your age. What you do for your health in your teen years will follow you through the rest of your life. And I know it can't be easy when your parents are the ones doing the grocery shopping!

By all means, try to influence the grocery list.

Learning to cook isn't that hard. There are recipes all over the internet, and once you figure out some basics, you'll be able to cook a meal with confidence! Just remember those fruits and vegetables! And try to stop drinking soda entirely. It's mind-blowing how bad for you that stuff is. If you can't let go, switch to diet soda, but best to avoid it entirely.

Focus on your activity level as well.

True daily cardiovascular activity for 30-35 minutes daily will give you results in two weeks.

Not only does cardio burn calories WHILE you are doing it, it also boosts your metabolism for the next 8 hours of the day....meaning you'll still be burning calories at an elevated rate.

Obviously, morning, or early in the day is the best time to do cardio.

Good luck.

Hi meloncube01, you can do the carb rotation diet and interval training to start losing weight. The good thing is that, you don't have to starve yourself just to lose pounds but you can still eat the way you do but by replacing eat with fruits and vegetables
