I'll still stick with my previous statement.
Your insulin levels are less reactive at night than they are during the day...therefore whatever you eat closer to bed time has a better chance of being stored as fat.
I just don't think its a good idea to eat a food that is hard to break down (carbohydrates) at the very point in the day when your body is less likely and less able to do so, net caloric deficit or not.
But things like insulin and fat metabolism don't happen in vacuums.
You have to look at the big picture... especially the energetic state which will be the primary dictator of whether, on a net basis, fat is gained or lost.
I suppose we'll have to agree to disagree.
Just to be clear...
If your maintenance calorie intake is 2500, it's not going to matter much when you consume your foods during the day b/c no matter what, the total caloric cost of that day is 2500. If you consume all your calories in the P.M. hours and they fall below 2500... you're not going to store fat/mass.
It doesn't matter if your metabolism is supposedly less efficient in the PM (which is a very broad generalization that doesn't apply to everyone). The net energy balance is what's going to determine tissue storage or loss.
And look, I'm not trying to be nitpicky or bash your ideas. I really did enjoy your first post. I simply like to maintain the integrity of information. If this works for you and you enjoy it, all the more power to you! I bring it up simply b/c stopping consumption of carbs after 7 p.m. isn't a necessity for success (I could argue in many cases it could deter success) and in my opinion, the less rigidity you throw at someone trying to lose weight, the more likely they are to stick with it.
If the thread is initially a "questions, have you tried", it's a legit question. Can't close a thread for that
The problem is, people assume a name and start replying as if they take these concoctions and claim success however, are purely spammers.
Try getting that across to someone whom ops for pills instead of exercise and good food to lose weight..
We have but tried....
As for eating after 7pm, gee I have to say at 46, that's all I know as well, "don't"... can't recall where that came from and I assume it also really depends on what you are eating, such as steak will remain in your stomach and not break down when sleeping yes?

Do we not realise that in order to find a soul
It doesn't happen over night
if truth were to be told.
Like everything in life that's hard to achieve
you must believe!
Where does it come from?
It comes from the old notion that metabolism turns off at night. It doesn't. BMR is the largest component of metabolic/caloric needs and that's going strong throughout the night. The OP suggests that metabolism, universally, is less efficient after 7 p.m.
That's simply not the case. What if you lift weights after a normal day shift, for instance. Suppose you train with weights from 6-7 pm. Guess what...
Insulin/glucose can actually help you after training in terms of recovery and taking advantage of partitioning that occurs with muscle tissue insulin sensitivity. That's why making blanket statements, especially of rigid nature, don't typically work well in the fitness industry.
And the point is, looking at calorie/nutrient needs on an hour by hour basis doesn't much matter once you factor in the net.
