Yea, myths die hard. Especially in this industry. The Internet certainly doesn't help, nor does the lack of credentials/education needed to call oneself an authority.
Actually, here in Australia most do their training after work so at those times. I remember a lady who went onto body building and won, she always ate pasta after her workouts at 6 - 7pm....That's simply not the case. What if you lift weights after a normal day shift, for instance. Suppose you train with weights from 6-7 pm. Guess what...
I guess it's a bit like, chocolate is no good for you , oh hold on, dark chocolate is, red wine isn't oh hold on 1 glass a night is actually good for you.
How old goes out the door, when man realises that he had no idea what he was talking about before haha.
Sorry couldn't help that last bit.

Glad we have an understanding.
I must admit - the not eating past a certain time also is a personal preference.
If I go to bed with an empty stomach I wake up the next day "feeling" lean. It's a lovely feeling. I'm sure you know what I mean. If I eat before bed, I don't get that feeling, and wake up feeling sluggish at times.
I also work out in the late AM, so I'm speculating that my metabolism is at its peak the 8 hours following my cardio session.
And FYI - your comments are welcome information to me.
Hi OhThereyouare,
I read your post and found that it made the most sense, especially compared to the idea of taking diet pills. So a month ago I started my own lifestyle change. I basically substituted green vegetables for the carbs I was eating, cut out the booze, fat and junk food, and increased my exercise from 2-3 days a week to 4-5 days a week. I have lost 9 lbs in 4 weeks, down from 124 to 115 (I am 5'3", so that's actually alot). I do drink green tea with an herbal appetite suppressant (Yogi Blueberry Slim Life) in the afternoon to get me through the afternoon munchies. I feel great and I don't have to go out and buy a new wardrobe because the old one didn't fit anymore.
I also have used the "two cheat meals a week", so I don't feel like I'm completely deprived. I think that's where diets go wrong-too long without and then a binge when you start up. I let myself have one drink (Firefly sweet tea vodka with light lemonade (75 calories)) on the weekend nights, and I always have a very small amount of what everyone else is eating (ie pasta). And I always eat a low sugar, high fiber breakfast (Fiber One).
Anyway, thanks for your post and I wish I had a before an after pic to share.
Thank you for your story and good for you.
It is always tough getting started. But once you get past that initial hurdle, the results start rolling in and your whole mindset changes. You don't even crave things anymore because you know it will ruin your progress. Addictive.
Yes - we're human....if you stick to the regimen, you can afford 2 cheat meals....I usually splurge at dinner. Gawd, I love food.
5'3" 115? No pic needed, I'm sure you're smoking hot.![]()
Smokin' hot? Well thanks, I used to be
Yes, the first three days were the toughest, because I was so freaking HUNGRY!!! Then my stomach started to shrink and it was alot easier.
You are right, the results are the best reward. When I put on the skinny jeans and the tight shirt and didn't have the soft white underbelly-it feels WAY better than eating an ice cream sundae!
I love to cook, so I have had to make changes to my gourmet lifestyle. No more cream sauces. Now it's steaming an braising and grilling. I also went to eatingwell.com and found some lower calorie lunches. But it killed me that a whole chicken cut up was supposed to make four sandwiches. I made eight. Where is the portion control???
Anyway I hope you have (or had) fun in Cancun!
A trick with the food, maybe not a trick but a good practice; is to eat consciously. Take some care in preparing your food, enjoy the process, smells, textures, colors. Be aware when you eat. Too often we eat on the run, in front of the TV and we pay no attention to what we eat, how much we eat and we don't really enjoy it.
Like eating a chocolate, do you pop one after another in your mouth? Try turning just one into a sensuous treat. nibble, let it melt on your tongue, really feel the smooth chocolate in your mouth, smell it, really taste it. You can make one little piece of candy last a long time and get far more pleasure from it than a whole box just shoving them in your mouth. In other word don't eat it, experience it.
WHen you do this you'll consume less and enjoy it more.
