I have heard a rumor that stress helps burn calories...is there any truth to this? I have been through some extreme stress lately and have felt physical effects of it...is there any good coming from stress?

Stress can motivate us to make change. Stress for bad or good reasons produces the same responses in the body. It does release chemicals that can contribute to a variety of health problems, lower immunity and cause us to gain weight. Make sure you are eating right, getting enough sleep and exersizing.

Stress actually lowers your metabolism, so no, it won't be helping you lose weight. Now, if youa re the kind of person who doesn't eat when stressed, that would be one thing.

Stress does not help you to lose weight - as others have said before me, it usually has the opposite effect. It lowers the metabolism on its own, as well as causing other issues that tend to do the same thing: insomnia, over eating, under eating, increase in smoking, etc.
The best thing you can do is to live as healthy a lifestyle as permitted. Try to get enough sleep every night, eat healthy and smart, and get some exercise (and a moderate level of exercise may help to fight depression and anxiety, which often accompany long durations of stress, and can also help to prevent insomnia by ensuring you have enough physical activity to be bodily - not just mentally - tired at the end of the day). Not eating enough will definitely lower your metabolism, and just plain isn't healthy, so that's not a good way to fight the extra pounds.

I think stress doesn't burn calories. Our body is able to burn if we are on a state of action. It means that we only burn calories or fats by moving like exercise.
