Hi all, found your site while wandering the internet, Ive been struggling with my weight for the past 5 years up and down like a yo yo.. last summer I was down to a 179 and a size 12 while doing the Atkins diet, it just wasn't working for me because I was tired and lethargic all the time and hungry. So stopped, thinking I would just be able to keep the weight off.. needless to say it all came back and them some!
So that brings me to where I am today, 4 weeks ago today I started a low calorie meal plan and a food journal where I write down every bite ( and I do mean every! lol) that goes into my mouth.. I average between 1250 ( on a low day) to 1500 a day and I walk at least 4 nights a week for 40 minutes to an hour. I started off at 214 and as of today I am 204.5 this past week I only lost half a pound and thats with the walking! I eat plenty of veggies, grapes, apples etc.. I weigh all my meats and count every calorie.. does anyone else have weeks where they hardly lose? I have no plans on giving up, this is the easiest way of eating Ive ever done, nothing is off limits if I really want to have it as long as I count it for the day.. Does anyone here calorie cycle? Ive heard of it just havent tried it.. Thanks, Kristy

Calorie cycling is tough - and the results will probably be mixed.
If you are starting to plateau, the best thing you can do is ramp up your activity. Try an elliptical for 30 mins. If that is too much, walk on a treadmill with an incline. Or, walk 5 days a week instead of 4. Good luck.

Thanks, I think I will walk more.. I just want to make sure Im at an ok calorie level or if I should drop it down to 1300 to 1400 a day max.. but then after exercising that would make the count even lower for the day?

As far as your calorie level, everyone is different - listen to your body....it will tell you if you are doing something it doesn't like. Try it - if you don't feel well, adjust. If you feel okay and your energy level is unaffected, you're fine!

Is walking is enough to serve as our exercise? for how many minutes a day? 10-15mins?

it really depends on what you are wanting. Weight loss? then no. Like I've been told, you have to burn more calories then you take in to lose weight. I have maintained my weight by walking 15 mins twice a day tho. I round research that showed I was burning about 150 calories by walking 30 mins a day. Not really that many at all. The best activity that burns the most calories is swimming

Except for walking, you could also trim down the calories you take everyday right? I walk 15mins a day, I used a tool online to calculate if how much calories I needed everyday, the result is 1200 calories/day. I also use internet to determine if how much calorie does a food contain before I eat it. What else could you suggest?
Moderation is the key

there are a few calorie counter websites online that make this very easy. Alot of the main foods out there are already pre loaded but you have the option to add something if you can't find it. They also calculate calories burned in different activities. I commend you for working so hard. It is very hard. I have been using calorie counting for a while now and really have only maintained my weight but like I said in another one of my posts, I'm having an emotion issue exercising for other reason. Things I will overcome and finally see the results. Good luck

As usual I have a book to suggest. The Woman's Advantage Diet. This one's been around for a while but the principal make so much sense for women in their childbearing years. Through your monthly cycle (you know thats a moon month not a sun month?) the hormone levels in your body change (they do in men's bodies too but they are harder to pin down) We have all different kinds of hormones and they control or affect just about everything. When one hormone is higher we burn calories faster, with another elevated we store fat more effectively.
The book explains how to calculate your own cycle and then adjust your diet accordingly. That way you work with your body to achieve a healthier weight but you also will experience fewer emotional swings. This will fit right in with your exersize to help you be really fit.

Walking is ok...but the more strenous the exercise the more it will help. I don't do high impact aerobics or run or anything that is high impact due to a knee injury from my youth. I roller skate! Not on roller blades but on good old quads and I play roller derby! Skating is more strenous than walking a better aerobic workout and little to no impact! Roller skating (and roller derby) is making a comeback. If you ever roller skated before now might be the time to break those skate out again! If you're street skaing, you're probably going to want to invest in some pads and a helmet, if you have a rink in town, check out their hours and schedules.
I had been off skates for 25 years before I started roller derby....and now I can't even remember why I ever quit skating to begin with! It's the best workout i've ever done! Not to mention great for the booty! |
