In the last year, I have put on 5kg (11 pounds), for no particular reason. My body fat percentage has also gone up
I really want to do something about this, although I'm not overweight medically. I would like to improve my health and fitness and lose those 5kg's. What has worked for you? This is my plan: I am going to follow a 4 month fitness/health plan in a magazine I found, over and above the 3-4 hours of ballet I do a week (part of this is about the fact that I need to get fitter and stronger for the new level of ballet I just started). It's really simple (the magazine programme) and starts off easy, so it'll be a good cross-training option for me. Then I'm going to work on portion control and eating more vegetables and fruit and more low-GI stuff. In addition I'm going to commit to stretching at least my hamstrings once a day on days I don't do ballet (when I always stretch everything). I'm going to take a picture of my self in my swimming costume today and tomorrow morning first thing I'm going to weigh myself and check my body fat and muscle percentages. I'll only weigh myself and check percentages once a month and only take another photo in 4 month's time. I have a friend who is interested in doing this with me - I really hope she will cos I need support! Although I'm focusing on eating better today, I'll only start the official programme tomorrow cos then my friend can join me. Any suggestions/help/support are welcome. Does this sound like I'm on the right track?

Wow you are totally on track! I love what you are doing. I would suggest you also write down your goals and post them so you can see them everyday! I always wanted to be a ballerina but I have too much muscle! I would love to see your before and after pictures, I also have those on my home page and I love to see the changes I have made. I am also impressed that you are monitoring your bodyfat instead of just going by the scale. Even if your friend doesn't join you keep going and focus on your goal everyday and before you know it you will reach it! Email me anytime if you need support as well. Thanks for your support and encouragement. My friend decided to join me, but we only managed one workout last week cos of being busy, so we started with week 1 of the programme again this week. I didn't check my body fat % or muscle mass yet, but my weight is 62kg (136.4 pounds), my height is 165cm (5 foot 5) and my bmi is 22.8. I used to weigh 57kg (125.4 pounds). Ultimately I'd like to weigh 54kg (118.8 pounds) but right now I'd just be happy to get under 60kg again. All I had to do for the programme yesterday was take a photo of myself, but I'll do that next time I'm in ballet gear (which is form-fitting). I did 2.5 hours of ballet yesterday, so taking a break today. If I could afford it, I'd do 6-7 hours of ballet a week but lessons are expensive
