    sigh...I have a problem.

Okay first i'll start off with the fact that I am 9 months pregnant, so wieght IS an issue for me, just can't do anything about it NOW.

But even NOW I can't seem to give up the sweets (candy, soda) junk food (fast food, potato chips, chocolate) I DO however REALLY enjoy fruits, vegetables and a good variety of lean meats (I'm not a fan of meat but still eat for health) and nuts.

I just love the taste and can't seem to stop buying it. Now I am (brace yourself for this) 255Lbs There, I said it 255 big, bad, fat pounds. I was 230 pre pregnancy, lost 15 LBs the first 24 weeks of my pregnancy (go figure, morning sickness and no "taste" for foods) NOW it seems I can't get enough of the junk (hubby isn't helping by having it in the house, and also the 15yr old that stays with us) and gained all this weight in a short amount of time...keep in mind though too I had a very "active" job for the first 7 months of my pregnancy so thats probably how I kept the weight off.

Now how can I STOP eating/ craving this stuff? I want to stop before I either gain even MORE weight or die of a heart attack!!!! What would one suggest to start doing post-natal to start losing the weight?

I know breast feeding helps, but I want my baby to get the good nutrients and not stuff from junkfood/ sugars.

Is there a way to convince hubby to maybe NOT keep the junk around so I don't eat it? I keep a big bowl of fruits on the kitchen table and an ample supply of yogurt, brown bread etc....but how do I change my cravings from junk to good again? I was doing good now I am slipping!!...

    help!

Keeping it out of reach is one way. Eating super healthy is another. Talk with the man and explain the benefits to him - you will be more even tempered, lose the "baby fat" faster, healthier you, baby and him. You'll slow down your labor if you aren't eating right too. Make a decision, stick with it.

I feel for you Pitty. Sweets are my downfall too. Before my first pregnancy I was 180 and fairly comfortable with myself. I lost all baby weight (25lbs) quickly mostlu due to nursing and trying to eat healthy for my daughter. I put on 15-20 a year or so later due to some depression. Pregnancy #2 I got up to 255 and 4 1/2 years later go between 225-245. Keeping it out of the house helps me as well as trying to eat balanced and healthy. I know when I am eating this way I would loose if I would get more exercise.

FYI if you are planning to nurse you may not be able to eat alot of your favorite junk. Babies sometimes react badly to chocolate, spicy food greasy food & caffeine.

Just lock all the junk food away and throw away the key, or let your husband keep it. I suggest if you like sweets is to eat chopped fresh strawberries and drizzle some honey. It works for me if I feel like eating something sweet or trail mix with m&m's mixed in.

Maybe if you want to eat some of the junk food, try to trick your brain. Eat them in smaller portion and bites. A couple of bites should be enough to satisfy your cravings...

Try to find something to do that will keep you busy. Knitting or chrocheting maybe will work.

If none of this is helping you out you can blame it on the pregnancy cravings XD

Sounds like you have the same tastes as me! Love fruit and veggies, love healthy bread, rice, etc. eat meat but not in excess. A healthy eater, except for the delicious curse of a massive sweet tooth! I found a way to control it recently and I've been going well for about three months now (hope it lasts!)

First: Get those sweets out of your house! Talk to your husband. Tell him you just can't control yourself when it comes to sweets and for your health and the health of your baby he really has to stop bringing sweets home and storing them up in the fridge/pantry. He can bring home an icecream or something for himself, just as long as he eats it straight away, but the sweets must not stay. Trust me, you will get nowhere in cutting down on sweets if you can't achieve a sweet-free house.

Second: Give yourself a rule to follow. My rule is: once a week. BUT I'm clever about it. My 'sweet week' starts on Saturday and ends on Friday. I figure the weekend is when I'm in the mood to eat sweets the most, so make Saturday the start of my 'sweet week'. That way later in the week, I have no excuse to eat any more. But I'm not a sugar Nazi with my rule either. I can have a bit of sugar in my coffee, I can put jam or honey on my toast. I can even have a hot chocolate if I make it myself and just put in one teaspoon of sugar. But the real sweets - cakes, icecream, chocolate, candy etc. - only once a week.

Third: Your rule (however you make it) will be meaningless if you don't stick to it. Keep that in mind whenever you get tempted. Also think about why you are cutting down. If it's the thought of horrible glumpy yellow globs of fat lining your arteries and slowly choking your body, think of that. If (like me) it's the thought of your vast dimpled thighs and their massive wobbling stores of fat which hang about everywhere and squeeze into your pants like a blimp trying to fit itself in a condom, think of that. Find the thought that disgusts you the most, and concentrate on that every time you get the urge. By the end of a week of abstinence, you can tuck into a nice chocolate cake with the knowledge that you've earned it.

The first few weeks may be a bit hard, so it's important to get that disgusting fatty thought going to get you through the first stage, but soon your sweet tooth will loose it's bite, you're body will get used to the fact that you don't have to eat an ice cream everyday (like I used to), and your cravings will go away.

Anyway, that's what worked for me. Good luck!

Whew! I am going over my three day hump of sweet/ junk free eating I bought some peanuts (and some honey roasted if I get sweet cravings, but I only allow myself to have a handful at a time once a day...so far so good) I bought low sugar animal crackers, much less fat/ calories than potato chips, and I eat them one or two at a time each time I crave junk...I just nibble them and it seems to do the trick. I stuffed the fridge with fresh fruits and ready to eat salads.

My problem is not only junk food, but portion control with food...sometimes I'm not even truly hungry when I eat, I just feel like it..BIG NO NO!!! SO I am trying to only eat two-three meals a day and my little snacks in between (fruit, nuts animal crackers) I know peanuts have ALOT of calories for 1/3 of a cup (340 to be exact ) So I limit myself on those too.

I never really had a big problem with drinking soda. Lately I keep a case of cans of apple juice (sugar free-REAL juice, not apple beverage) an tons of water...though I am trying to drink more water than juice.

Well wish me luck that I continue...I should, all I think about is a LONGER labour (I'm planning on doing without drugs) So the healthier I am, the better. Also trying to go for a walk everyday..so far I only went for one 2 days ago but I'm trying.

Oh also I cut out all the possbile caffine for the remainder of my pregnancy (4 weeks) and breast feeding (approx 9 months hopefully if she doesn't start biting them too soon!) The only caffine I intake is whats in chocolate...but even that is VERY limited!

Alrighty. What made my cravings for junk food completely go away is a nice healthy dose of GREEN SMOOTHIE every day!

Green smoothies consist of veggies + fruit (especially frozen bananas or frozen berries, really helps to make it like a smoothie consistency, mmm yum) + anything else, like flax seeds or something.

Give it a shot! It will change your life... did for me and many of my friends!
